This evening while resting on the sofa watching a film my heart started pounding and racing and I feel really out of breath. I have now taken my bra off and I'm laying down but my heart is going like the clappers and I feel really out of breath. I sometimes suffer palpitations anyway when not pregnant but usually anxiety related. I'm feeling ok in myself otherwise. Does anyone else have this??

Is it possible your iron is low? I've had low iron in all of my pregnancies and had similar symptoms to what you're describing x

Can you mention it to your OB? It can be nothing at all but always best to mention anything heart related during pregnancy. I know, i learned the hard way..

The iron thing kind of makes sense because I haven't had my regular pregnancy vitamins for about a week but for the last few days I have a new basic one that only has C, D and folic acid. I've got another 10 weeks until my next appointment though, might have to give them a ring in between x

I suffer from this sometimes when not pregnant but it's been even worse since been pregnant this time! Mine is palpitations. My blood tests are all normal though and I had an ECG which was normal too. I read it's to do with the increased volume of blood in our bodies now because of the pregnancy and our hearts are having to work twice as hard to pump it. Hope that helps a bit? I would recommend having blood tests though to rule out anemia etc x

Thinking the iron as well. If you can't get appointment with mw, then go to your regular doctor and ask fr iron blood test. I'm out of breath easily & got low iron. Because I have digestionable issues with iron, I take liquid iron and that is great. Tastes horrid (floradix or floravital), but doesn't upset stomach or give constipation which is what pillforms do.

Thanks everyone I think I will switch vitamins for a while and see if it makes a difference xx

I get palpitations, quite frequently since being pregnant.

I've had them before, like most people probably have, but not NEARLY as frequent or strong as since being pregnant.

I talked to both my OB and my primary doctor about it, we checked my iron intake supplements, all that, and they said it's perfectly fine. Just an increase in blood.

Mine isn't painful though, and lasts less than a minute when it happens, and I don't know that I end up short of breath. No idea if those things make a difference, but I wanted to let you know that there are times when it's not indiciative of anything negative.

This happened to me, and I second what Laila said: it definitely needs to be brought up to your doctor. There is a really serious heart condition called PPCM in pregnancy that has similar symptoms, and that condition should always be ruled out by a medical professional. That's just my disclaimer, and I mention this because of how seriously my OB took the whole issue when I was experiencing it.

In my case, my OB sent me for an EKG to rule out heart problems, and also tested iron. The EKG came out normal but the blood test came back showing that my anemia had gotten much worse with the very low-dose iron supplement I'd been on. I went on stronger iron supplements and the problem went away within about a week.
