Okay, so now that Claire has had her 2 month needles, I feel better about going back to using Powdered Formula (don't ask...lol ;) )

Anyways, I was curious about the preperation. How many of you just fill the bottles with pre-sterlized water and add the scoops of formula right before you feed, and how many just make the bottles up with the forumla in the water already and just warm when needed?

I was premaking about 4 bottles at a time with the concentrate formula I was using. I know, it's not like having to add a few scoops of formula is labour-intensive or anything but I'll admit that time is precious when Claire is screaming for food... and would rather just make them up.

I'm of the impression that you can store pre-made formula for up to 24hours in the fridge? I never make more than what I'd need in a 16 hour period. Is that safe?

Sorry for all the questions... :dohh:

i'm sure at lot of people make them up and keep them in the fridge for 24hours honey, and they're fine.

what we do is each night sterilise and make up 6bottles with boiled water, enough for the next 24hours. i then add the powder when maddi needs it a just quickly reheat it - in a jug of boiled water, seems to work for us :) x

I sterlised bottles and put the pre boiled water in them. When it came to feeding time i put the powder needed in them and heated it up in a jug. I made enuff for 16 hrs too. Now elinors a yr old I dont need to worry bout sterllising bottles etc tho.

Good luck with it all! :hugs:

We make up enough bottles for 24 hours and put them in the fridge, reheating as needed. I've never had any problems doing it that way

i make up 24 hours worth of feeds. formula and all. xx

Totally agree! 24 hours is just fine! That being said... I hate using powder lol... I buy concentrated formula.

I make enough up for the day and store them in the fridge. When he wants a feed i just get it out and warm it up in a jug or hot water :D
xx

Yep, every evening I prepare enough bottles to last me for 24 hours and store them all in the fridge. Then I just pop them in the bottle warmer when they are needed.

I fill my ster. bottles with the cooled boiled water and have them all ready in the cupboard, and then when Helena wants one I microwave the bottle for 15 seconds and then add the powder and shake.
I have no time for bottle warmers or sitting it in hot water, and I know the microwave is a no no but I have never have had a problem since I am shaking it and I don't put it in that long because it is already at room temp.

I use the microwave too... I just shake it really well.

I make 6 bottles up at a time, store in fridge, add formula when needed xx

i make mine up formula in at the same time pop them at the back of the fridge that way its made with the right temp water to kill any bacteria in the powder,
i put them in the microwave, boiling the kettle everytime you make a feed is really really expensive and not nessecary its something like 5p everytime you boil a kettle. i have always heated that way its quicker and is safe if you shake well and give it a minute or so before feeding.
xx

If I'm at home I will make up the bottles with hot water and formula and stick them in the back of the fridge and take them out to warm up about 30mins before feeding time - my LO will happily drink them at room temp which saves a lot of faffing about heating them up. If I'm out or during the night though I will just take the bottles with water in them in a thermal bag to keep hot and then add the powder when required and cool if necessary.

I premake 6 bottles at a time, and come feeding time I heat a container of water in the microwave for bottle warming...

I'm not sure if I like the powdered formula....

I think I might go back to the concentrate. Seriously, for the amount that we're using it isn't that much cheaper than the concentrate. How crazy is that? I bought a decent sized tin and it's 3/4 empty in 2 days

Decisions, decisions. Thanks so much for the input though! It's good to know that premaking the formula isn't going to kill her or anything (like the labels would like you to believe)

I find that with the powdered formula that it won't disolve properly in cool water and I had a personal issue with making it with hot water and then cooling it in the fridge just to reheat it when it was time to use it so...

what I do is wash and dry the bottles, measure the formula into them, cap the nipples on and let them sit

depending on age I will either have preboiled/steralized water sitting and waiting, in that case I microwave however much I need to just lukewarm (for me it's 30 seconds for 6 oz) and then add it to the dry formula shake a voila... 45 seconds till we have a bottle. If baby is a bit older and you are using tap water anyways I just add the appropriate temp water to the bottle and shake... good to go then :)

Brooklynn hates waiting for anything, especially food so we learned to be fast

I really shop around, literally taking a calculator to the store with me, I'm sure I'm a sight. Anyways I actually found that unless I'm able to get the powder on a fantastic sale concentrate is cheaper. The concentrate was great in that I was able to open a can, measure it into the bottles and then refridgerate. When I needed a bottle I took it out of the fridge (concentrate only) and then would add the warmed water (almost boiling) and when the cold formula and the hot water mixed the bottle was almost always the right temp, so fast. Good luck with it all, it can be so hard when they are screaming

I made my bottles up for the day .. and put them in the fridge...as courtney didnt have one through the night from about 4 weeks..!! I tried all diff ways tbh, until I found what worked for us :)

We make up a flask full of sterilised warm water and then when Charlie needs a bottle I just put the flask water in the bottle and add the formula. Takes about 5 seconds and voila! x

I use my 26 oz flask and make it up for the day , and what ever is needed after I make it with the rest of the boiled water he has left ..
