Hi all

Has as anyone ever had pre-cancerous cells removed?? I was diagnosed with CIN3 in November and had to go to the colposcopy dept and have the Leep (loop) precedure performed, where they removed the bad cells from my cervix....

I then had the long wait for the results, I think it took almost 2 weeks...The letter said they had managed to treat the affected area and they would like to see me in 6 months...Which is this May....

Im approx 4w + 1 day. I rung the Colposcopy clinic to tell them, I presumed they wud cancel untill after bubs is born, but they said they need to see me when i am 12 weeks to have a look to see if any bad cells have returned....

Im so so scared already but i have got such a long way to go....Not only that, I have read on the net that the procedure i had done causes weakening of the cervix and can result in m/c in the 2nd tri..... Am so scared

Anyone else going through or been through anything similar

Sorry hun I can't imagine what you are going through right now and didn't want to read and run but would like to send you a big hug and wish you luck xxxxx

Hi, my friend was in a similar situation, had some form of pre-cancerous cells, think she had some sort of lasering done or something, but then fell pregnant so think she is going to have a check up soon but fingers crossed all is ok.
I havent had a smear yet, kind of wished Id booked one in before pregnancy, but must remember to do this after the next baby.

I wish you the best of luck, and hope it all goes smoothly xx

Hey Mrs Cullen xx

They will keep a close eye on you and your cervix, and if you need it they can put a stitch in to keep in closed xxxx

Don't worry, all will be okay :hugs:

Hi pet, wanted you to know that I also had a friend in a similar situation. She had pre-cancerous cells lasered/burned away and within one or two months was pregnant. Her little one is now 7 months old.

Also if you do need a stitch like Madge mentioned dont worry. My Mum had a stitch put in her womb with me and that was back in 1981!!!

Big hugs :hugs:

Hey hun i had a colposcopy done in Jan and still havn't got my biopsy results back! Think its only cin1/2 tho but was told i would need treatment in July but dont know if they still can do it now impregnant? Is the treatment safe? Suppose i need to ask my doc all this. It is a worry tho hun, really hope everything goes ok for you and wish you all the luck in the world! :hugs:

Hey Ya

I had pre cancerous cells february 2008 and had some lasered and cut i believe thankfully i was asleep, was due my 1st yr check this march but i will see what doc says thursday when i go in, as i remember them mentioning about a stitch which my niece had done recently, but ive known some women to not hav to hav it i suppose it depends on how much pressure it can hold.

Hey hun I dont think they treat whilst pregnant, just keep an eye on you....I would have thought they wud have been in touch by now if the results were bad....My cousin had serious cell change and they rung her within 2-3 days and i was told in clinic i had severe changes and they offered me the treatment there and then....so i really wouldnt worry too much hun :hugs:

Thanks all for your kind words, it really means so much and keeps me hopeful :hugs:

No problem!! :hugs:
They just said mid grade. One area was severe and one was mid grade. I am going to my first baby appointment Friday. They will do a PAP then. I was suppose to go back in April for the 6 month check up. I'll let you know what they say about the LEEP and post check up!! :D

Hi
I've had pre-cancerous cells a couple of times. I had an abnormal smear and had to go to the colposcopy clinic but by the time my appointment came around I was pregnant. They examined me and told me I'd have to go back when I was 6 months pregnant. I then had the treatment after I had the baby. So basically, they generally just keep an eye on you and won't do treatment unless it's absolutely necessary.

Ive had both cancerous and pre-cancerous cells removed and my doctors did not say anything about having to put in any stiches in when pregnant. I was on monthly check ups for quite awhile, down to just yearly now, so I doubt there is anything to get too worried about. Just like the other have said, they will just keep an eye on it, I bounce from abnormal to normal all the time.

hiya,

I had a loop cone biopsy 10 years ago and have had borderline results ever since, I too am worried about having an incompetent cervix as I have had a termination too - over 10 years ago - but please remember that incompetent cervix only effects 1 in 100 women, its only a 1% chance you have it and it is people who have had 3+ surgeries who are more at risk. My midwife/ GP will not measure my cervix for me - they say I have to miscarry this baby for them to them monitor my next pregnancy. So... Ive booked a private cervical scan for 14 weeks to put my mind at rest (it was only £60)
My friend tested positive for pre-cancerous cells the month before she fell pregnant and she is having the laser surgery now to remove them, her baby is 2 months old so she's gone a year with knowing she has them but shes fine.
On a final note... my mum used to be a manager in the Cytology unit and dealt with the admin and results of smears, she said - if anything really bad could happen in the space of a year then they wouldnt give you a smear every 3-5 years - they would be annually instead!! Hope this all helps a bit?????? xxxxxxx

Hiya,

I had cin3 pre cencerous cells and had LEEP procedure x2 big one once, then 6 months later again but to remove a further small area. I was told not to try for a baby until I had a normal result, and that they wouldn't test me again until 3 months after I gave birth due to hormones needing to settle.

Then had a bfp. I was super nervous like you as was worried about a 2nd tri loss. Sadly my area dont put a stitch in until you have actually had a late loss!!!! WTF!!! BAsically they would do nothing for me. But I looked into private scans and apparently some clinics do a cervical competency scan at so many weeks pregnant so you can see if your cervix is 'strong', and you can repeat the scan to see if the cervix shortens or gets 'weaker'.

All was ok with me, like I said, I had two proceedures. The only impact it had on my pregnancy was during labour as the cervix sometimes doesn't dilate in 'text book fashion'. For me, I had regualr contractions but my cervix didn't dilate after reaching 4cm.... then it kind of dilated from 4 to 8/9 quite quickly to catch up lol. So no drama, I guess the scar tissue that needed some encouragement?!?!? SO in the end my cervix was stronger and not weaker!

It sounds like you'll be just fine.

Freya, Im same as you, on an early internal scan at EPAU (after an electric shock) i asked how will i know if I have a weakened cervix and she said 'you'll lose this baby and then they will monitor your cervix in the next pregnancy'! I was so upset! Ive found the scan privately, its £60 for a 14 week scan and £50 at another place for a 16 week scan so I opted for the 14 week one. Have my 3 month scan next Weds then the cervical scan 2 weeks later xx

I have cin2 changes but on the day i was due to get treatment i found out was pregnant, (im to get leep)...they told me ive to go in 3 months after having LO which my appointment is May.They wont do anything to you while pregnant. make sure you go for 6 month check up tho,i missed mine and didnt make another app and im having all sorts of worries with bleeding etc and im stressing so much.its my own fault though. Im sure you'll be fine, the private scan the other girls were talking about sounds like a good way to put your mind at rest. xxx

C1Reid, I put this in an earlier post but my friend carried her baby knowing that after the birth she'd need laser surgery to remove cancerous cells, she had the surgery when baby was 2.5 months old and waiting for results. Hope all goes well for you and try not to worry, I was so worried I was going to die when i found out I had pre-cancerous cells but then you talk on a forum like this and its quite common. And i worked for the NHS adding smear test results to database, abnormal/ borderline results are as common as 'normal' results xx

i totally forgot to tell you i work with a women who had exactly the same thing and was pregnant 2 months after the proceedure they did a check at 12 week's and couldn't see anything abnormal and she had a very healthy full term pregnancy i know it must be worrying but stay positive hun x x x
