Hello Ladies,

Thanks for taking a moment to check out my question. DH and I have been TTC for almost a year now. I've had blood work, internal ultrasound, and HSG. I ovulate and my tubes look great. My DH's spermies are perfect. Since we've been trying for so long (according to us) and still nothing, my dr offered we can start Clomid for 2 months at 50mg on cd 5-9. DH is terrified of having multiples. We want more than one baby, but as my dr said... not at the same time. Dr said that multiples can happen 13% of the time or as research suggests 7-9% of the time. My family dr said that most of the women that take pills like Clomid have one baby, and not multiple.

My cycle averages 28-36 days and although FF says I ovulate on CD 18-27, my dr says I ovulate btw CD 14-20.

How likely is it that we could end up with multiples if I go on the prescribed Clomid?

I took 50 mg clomid cycles days 5-9...I like you ovulated. DH Semen Analysis was damn near perfect. We tried for 6 months...I took clomid because I had low progesterone...I got pregnant my third month with clomid and we are having one little boy:) My neighbor also took clomid and only had one...

The side efects for clomid for me were a few hot flashes (I took at night so I would sleep through them) and I was a bit moody...thats all

The cycle we did concieve we only DTD one time! AND according to my Ovulation tracker is was 6 days too early for me to concieve. Those trackers had me timing baby dancing a week to late I think every month...clomid worked perfectly for us...good luck:)

Everyone I know who took clomid only have one little bean inside them. Does your family have a history of twins?

I got pregnant on my second cycle of clomid, 50 mg on days 3-7. Only one baby for me, a healthy little girl. :) Everyone I know that has taken clomid has only conceived one child. We too were worried about multiples when taking it and I also have family history of multiples on my mom's side- but nope! And I agree with one of the previous posters; try to take it at night if you decide to use it as the hot flashes can get pretty brutal; I also got nauseated while on it.. joked that it was preparing me for morning sickness. Good luck!!! :flower:

Chances are not extremely high, especially with such a low dose. About a 8-10% chance and if you think about it (not to sound grim or anything) but miscarriage chance is 15%.... I finally took 150mg on my second IUI and I developed 4-5 mature follicles, and actually released 2 eggs. So far scans only show one baby though. Anything higher than twins is less than 3% chance (about the chances of conceiving triplets + naturally), so no worries really there.

AlvysGrl - my progesterone is fine, everything was fine. You make it sound like you had the impossible happen to you. Congrats! And thanks for sharing :-)

Rigi.kun - no twins or multiples anywhere up and down both our family trees (that we know of)

jennievictora - Congrats! What's ovarian drilling?

DeniseX - the nausea is as bad as morning sickness would be? I read somewhere on here where it was recommended to take those little suckers at night. I started taking my folic acid at night and I love it :-) Otherwise, I'd get some nausea from taking the pill itself!

Brittles - You made the perfect analogy, as grim as it is. I'll let the DH know.

I found a thread on this board about women writing about their success stories of clomid and started reading it to him. Even though one woman had triplets, he told me a couple of hours ago that he's actually leaning to me taking the clomid. It's almost like what have we got to loose? If we don't get preggo this cycle, clomid is the option for the next to increase chances...

Thanks so much once again ladies!!!

took 100mg of clomid, had laparscopy and hysteroscopy to unblock tubes, and took the HcG trigger shot, pregnant with just one!

im not sure how best to explain it but will try they also did lap and dye to check my tubes i suffer from pcos with ovarian drilling they drill small holes in the ovaries and it can help you ovulate clomid didnt work before the op but it did after the operation if you have pcos id reccomend it to anyone i know some one else with pcos had the op and has a baby girl now! x

I took clomid (50mg CD5-9) and got pregnant on the first cycle. We're only having one.

HOWEVER, I did want to mention that I have heard that in ladies who are already ovulating, all clomid does is increase the chance that you will ovulate with multiple eggs... thus increasing the chances of multiples. In my case, however, I wasn't ovulating regularly on my own, and so the Clomid just forced my body to ovulate normally and only once.

Even if everyone on here has told you we haven't got multiples, I'd say that if you're going to take Clomid, you need to be prepared for that risk. Just in case.

MegnJoe - thanks for your feedback and congrats :-))

jennievictora - oh WOW, I didn't realize such things were possible... I hope the op wasn't too painful!!

ace28 - I was thinking something funny like that along those lines. DH is leaning to the 'take it' bc we want 3 kids. At 30, things are good w both of us yet it's taking a year, so how much longer is it going to take b4 the next baby comes along? Then we very well many not even have 3 kids and who says we'll have 2? lol, we're trying for ONE. And if two come along.. idk, I need to have that frank conversation w DH but we're more focused on the 'lets have that baby already'... without talking about the multiples (I gather it's a touchy subject for DH as he thinks about costs of having multiples), I ask if we really can afford 3 kids (diff ages). If so, they why not twins if it happens? Ah well, bottom line is this - I'm not even preggo and that's what we want. :-)

its amazin the things they can do that was keyhole surgery got tiny mark on my stomach smaller than size of a staple from it there wasnt much discomfrt tbh your a bit tender at first but id do it all again if i had 2 x

Generally like what ace28 said if you are already Oing then the reason to give you clomid would be to hyper stimulate you into producing more eggs. More eggs, the more chances to have one fertilize. I took clomid and didn't O on it. I used Femara, and Metformin to get me to O. But I have an issue with Oing. When are you BDing? I used to O early on cd 11, that is according to internal u/s. We would start BDing CD 7, 9, 10,11,12, 13, 14, 16 and then wait to test. Sperm can live up to 5 or so days and it can take up to 2 days to travel up your Fallopian tubes, so by BDing earlier it is there waiting to catch the egg. Because your ff calculator says later too I would try a month or two of BDing every other day and even daily on CD 12-20 from the time AF stops to to the time AF is due. Have a fun month of dress up, and make it fun. I was 28 when we had our 1st and I am 35 having our 4th. I hated clomid headaches. They were bad, so I would avoid it if you can. Try a few months of mad BDing and then try it.

dr said to bd every other day. we missed a day, and we're continuing every other day.

Back in August and September, we went crazy. One cycle it was every single day and the next cycle it was every other day, and I mean the complete cycle as soon as AF was departing. Nothing happened then and we were too tired, lol, so I started looking into temping and checking cervix and cm, and here we are now.

I'd like to do the every day when I'm super horny and dripping like a faucet.. but I want to go w what the dr said and give that a try first. :-)

well, just an update. It definely DOES cause some twins!! Just found out that baby #2 was hiding on the first scan. Theres 2!! both with good heart beats!! Good luck to you!!

I don't ovulate at all on my own. And I took 50mg cd 5-9 and got pregnant with one little girl the 2nd month on clomid :)

Me too, my 3rd cycle on 50mg resulted in my twins. I fell pregnant on my 1st cycle but had a mmc at 12 weeks (had a D&C). I do sometimes wonder if my 1st pregnancy had some sort of effect on my hormones levels and thats why I ovualted 2 eggs as on my 3rd cycle my day 21 progesterone levels were greater than 190.

My husband and I were TTC for two years with no luck. Like you everything was working fine on me and my husband's sperm was in abundance. It just was not happening. I ovulated on my own every month so doctor prescribed me clomid as well. There was two months that I took it and doctor said I had at least 7 eggs mature enough to be fertilized which scared me, NO WAY did I want 7 babies, but the doctor said just because you have that many eggs ready does not mean that you will have multiples. And those two months I did not get pregnant. Very frustrating.

I took it three months in a row with no :bfp: took a couple of months off from taking it since we were moving and I did not want that stress to mess up my cycle. So the 4th time I took it I became pregnant with our son! Just one ;)

We decided that since we ttc for two years that it would not be right to take birth control again to stop something we tried to have for so long and I honestly did not think I would have a baby with out it. But go figure I found out I was pregnant with #2 when my son was only 6 months old! No clomid, no charting, no nothing. And we only had sex about five times that month since my husband was ill then I was.

Sometimes getting pregnant just takes awhile longer, and as much as I thought while we were ttc my son that THAT was the perfect time to be pregnant and have him, it turns out when I did get pregnant finally and give birth to him it couldnt have came at a better time. Now I couldnt imagine having had him that first month we ttc. And now that I know for sure I can get pregnant with no help ill be taking birth control after this baby :haha:

Brittles - OMG!! CONGRATS!!! That's pretty crazy, WOW!! Best of luck to you and I hope your finances are on the up and up :-))))

Kopgirl1982 - oh boy.. Congrats to you too :-))) I wonder if we do go on clomid if we'll be in the same boat!! I do want a baby so two.... are kinda ok, I'm mean what else can we do right, they're ours ;-)

daddiesgift - Thanks so much for your info! Our bodies are c-r-a-z-y! I'm glad to hear your story and that things are turning out a-ok on your end with fertility. Best of luck in your second pregnancy :-))
