Is there any benefits to taking Prenatal Vitamins while NTNP or TTC? When i had my MC in early march, the doctor said he feels the reason why some of my pregnancies were "sticky" pregnancies was because of the lack of Folic Acid. So what are your opinions on it. Are any of you on Prenatal Vitamins?

*remembers to take her vitamin*

I am trying to take them, I am currently breastfeeding my toddler so my body is probably kind of deficient in some vitamins from making milk for so long.

I also wonder if that had something to do with my chemical? I haven't been taking folic acid and I don't eat a lot of foods with folate in them.

I am still nursing my toddler (13 months) as well so i should probably be taking some sort of vitamin.. I will remember to grab some when i go to the store :)

My first 2 pregnancies I was not on any prenatal's and I miscarried both within the first 5 wks. My 3rd pregnancy, I planned and I took prenatals for 6 months prior to ttc (you dont have to take them that long of course, just a few wks should be fine.. but I didn't want there to be ANY excuse for if I miscarried again) Plus my doctor told me to start taking them after my 2nd miscarriage regardless of whether I was ttc in case of accidental pregnacies I would give the embryo a fighting chance ;)

Right now, there's a possibility of preggy but I wasn't trying so I wasn't on prenatals. The day I started to spot and be concerned (spotting has NEVER happened to me) I started taking prenatals JUST IN CASE! :)

I was on prenatals for 3-4 months before getting pregnant, still had a MMC.

Prenatals don't really prevent miscarriage unless you are really deficient I guess. The most important is folic acid, although I've read that vitamin B and C help to stabilise and lengthen the luteal phase. Folic acid is essential for preventing neural defects like spina bifida and since you don't know when you're going to fall pg you should already be on at least 400micrograms daily as once you know you're pg it's too late - development has already started. Make sure your prenatal isn't loaded with vitamin A. Too much vitamin A can cause birth defects too.

As far as I know, beta carotene vitamin A won't cause any problems. It's retinol type vitamin A's that can cause problems if you take too much.

I think it is really important to be on prenatals if not using a reliable form of birth control. It's really good for your body if you do become pregnant, and really good for you even if you don't :)

Misspriss: I'm always surprised when I see someone online from Arkansas :)

Me too NicaQ! Especially on BnB! I am in central AR.

Where I am, we don't consider ourselves part of NW Arkansas but a lot of the rest of the state does lol feel free to friend request me if you want to chat :)

Yay! I've been taking my prenatals last week 95% success rate! The week before I probably took them 60-65% of the time, the week before that probably half...it's getting better! I'm shooting for 100% from here on out!
