I have heard of some women taking prenatal vits. but I wanted to see if they help when trying to get pregnant? Or what they do before you become pregnant.

You are meant to take folic acid whilst you are trying to conceive. I'm pretty sure NTNP also counts as TTC in this case. This to make sure its available for the embryo during very early growth, helping to prevent neural tube defects.

I take a prenatal, and I don't think it necessarily helps with TTC but it ensures you have enough folic acid and it's just good to be in optimum health for pregnancy.

That said, I saw a news report showing that you shouldn't take a prenatal vitamin with iron if you aren't pregnant as the amount is too high (my prenatal has iron....so i started taking them every other day to be careful).

Good luck!

when i told my dr my hunny and i were ttc, she perscribed me prenatals. she said often times you wont know when you get pregnant right away so its good to take them while trying so the baby gets all those good nutrients and the folic acid which is especially good for those little beans.

I take wellwomans original vitamins, which are safe to take throughout your entire cycle but i'm gonna switch when i've done taking them all.

I'm taking vitamins at the moment - as others have said it's best to get your folic acid levels up before you even get pregnant, plus the other vits are good for you. :)

I'm taking a standard multivitamin and an extra folic acid tablet at the mo, but I'll move onto a proper prenatal when I come off the pill as standard multivitamins contain a lot of vitamin A which you're not supposed to take when pregnant. (Also if I buy a real prenatal now, my OH may have a panic attack when he sees them in the cupboard!)

Well thank you everyone I have been thinking about starting to take them but I had read that you shouldn't take them if you are not prego, so I was not to sure I figured you should take them before you did get prego but then I started to wonder if maybe they would help you get pg faster/easier. But thank you ladies.

Lol I mean hellllooo Thats what i was thinking lol. I dont want him to see it and be like....Really? lol... But Im gonna get them, maybe store em in a different bottle lol.

I've been taking folic acid since I came of the pill several months ago. Just because if an egg does catch, then at least I'm all ready taking them.

A great side effect of taking FA would appear to be that my nails are growing quickly and strong. It's great. :D

However I am also taking the Pregnacare Conception, but as others have said hubbie would freak out if he saw them in the cupboard, so I have them in my handbag and take them at work. ;)

I was taking a standard multivitamin while we were trying, and ended up getting too much vitamins. I had a calcium deposit build up on my wrist (that went away shortly after stopping).

I would stick to prenatals.
