My right nipple is very shiny and it itches towards the end of feeding sometimes so bad I am digging my nails into my breast while she's feeding trying to stop the itch and sometimes I can ignore it. My daughter just had a doctors appointment and the inside if get mouth was checked no signs there but the sites online say a rash close to her rectum can be signs and she's had tiny little blotches down there so far not going away with creams.

Do I make an appointment with my GP or go to urgent care or just call her pediatrician? Her pediatrician can't help me right so I should see my doctor or is that something GP's don't generally deal with..and in that case just go to urgent care? Also if I do have thrush does that mean the milk I have stored away is no good or does it not affect my milk?

Thank you!

I'm not sure what country you're in? It does sound like it could be thrush to me and you should act quickly before it gets painful. I would make an appointment with your GP but if you can't get one straight away go to the pharmacy and ask for some daktarin gel for you and LO. It's really important to treat both of you. If it is thrush, yes you will need to throw away any stored milk.

I was told by my OB to use Clotrimazole cream on my nipples. That didn't work though, so I tried Apple Cider Vinegar on the nipples. That improved things, but didn't get rid of it all the way. I also exposed my breasts to 10 minutes of sun a day. I began taking Grapefruit seed extract pills (250mg, 3 times daily) and diluted 10 drops of the liquid form in 1oz of water and applied that to my nipples. The yeast is very stubborn. I've now moved on to Gentian Violet. -_____-

I'm in the US so the quickest thing would be for me to go to the rapid response. Thank you!

I read the grape fruit extract is really good for this sort of thing but idk where I would get it? I was going to google it cause I read that's better than most medicines doctors prescribe!

Oh and I ended up doing some research and I found on that Kelly mom site which is a highly recommended breast feeding site that said its not necessary to dispose of stored milk during thrush treatment and its okay for it to be used.

I think your milk is fine - you just need to sterilise all nipple shields/ teats etc. Make sure you change breast pads at least 3 times a day and also hot wash your bras.

You need cream and so does LO. Nystatin is the first line treatment here - it didn't work for us - so we went to Daktarin which LO liked the taste better.

It was a real faff to get rid of. I took oral meds as well for 10 days. Keep up with all the meds. It's sneaky and tends to get better and then come back and bite you in the nipple - so to speak.

HTH xx

Yep, it's a pain. I swear I'm gonna throw a party once I finally defeat this stupid yeast. Some strains of yeast regenerate every 90min while some are even quicker at 30min.

I guess your not supposed to use soap when you wash your boobs.....wish the nurses at the hospital had told me they just said wash my boobs separate..

I definitely haven't been taking care of them the way I'm supposed to according to all these sis about preventing infection. That will sure change! Hopefully its bit hard to get rid of and that it doesn't come back again....things always come back with a vengeance!
