Hiya,

Wondering if anyone here can help me.
I don't really do baking but I am planning on making a cake for my LO's birthday which is next week.
Can anyone help with this? I am looking to do a Princess style cake, probably a castle.
I'm going to make a sponge cake with cream and jam in between and then ice it.
What will I need to do this?
Where can I buy the supplies?
How do I make icing sparkly?

Probably will have more questions, just decided to do this, spur of the moment just now.

Any advice would be really appreciated :flower:

well helloooo hun i got a lot of things off ebay, i have edible glitter and things... you saw how mine turned out... ya know where to find me if you need help :) xx

actually its alot more expensive making 1 but much more fun!! :haha:

Eeek...is it more expensive?
I will have a look on eBay once bubs is in bed.
Might buy a sponge and just decorate it.
She can't eat it anyways :?
Thanks hun!! xx

its all the stuff i had to buy for it, making the sponge was easy and cheap so you can easily do that and fill with like buttercream and jam....but like the fondant, the tools etc where yeah...... but i only had to do that for the specific colours i needed... if you are just doing pink tierd cake or something with icing you should be fine and cheap... get edible glitter for like 99a p on ebay just type it in the search hun :)

if you want me to help you make it i can pop up... i wont be offended if you dont wanna lol though

someone on here will prob be more help tbh :flower:

Ok babe....can we talk through this?

I'm thinking a big sponge then a smaller on top.
Pink icing- How do I dye this?
Then I could do upside down ice cream cones? As like towers. If I coated them in...? And then rolled them in pink glitter?
I'd need a cake board?
I would decorate with sweets.
Door out of white chocolate fingers?
Decorated with like dolly mixtures, jelly tots and white choco buttons?
How could I write her name and 1?

Sorry tonnes of questions. Just trying to get the ideas down
Thanks for the offer to come over. Will let you know!!!

xx

What are those little silver balls called? :haha:

Totally right...
I'm thinking a big sponge then a smaller on top - really easy to do, either 2 diff sized pans or cut one smaller..
Pink icing- How do I dye this? get pink dye(from like tesco or asda, its cheap), u can use the liquid its what i do or buy paste if you want it REALLY pink lol
Then I could do upside down ice cream cones? As like towers. If I coated them in...? - And then rolled them in pink glitter? - Sounds fab, you can get fondant/sugar paste like its roll our fondant from asda etc and dye it the pink too... then roll in the glitter and maybe pink/white hundreds and thousands too??
I'd need a cake board? cake board either from tesco/asda depends on size as may need to try ebay if an odd size etc?
I would decorate with sweets. - YUM
Door out of white chocolate fingers? sounds good and sturdy too... just stick them on with either royal icing or butter icing...
Decorated with like dolly mixtures, jelly tots and white choco buttons?
How could I write her name and 1? - just pipe her name, its what i did on LOs blue cake??... and i bought a big 1 candle or you can mould out of either fondant or royal icing..

Royal icing dries hard and crunchy its lush so u can actually pipe things out like flowers etc and it will dry hard and u can stick onto cake(and u can make in advance)[/COLOR]

The rainbow dust is what i got hun!!!

and what silver balls???? lol

Found them...haha.
I'll look into it more tomorrow and order stuff.
Can you get just pink and white hundreds and thousands?
xx

Yup ive seen them in tesco... used them on my cupcakes before hun!... you can get sparkly ones im sure too, have a gander :)

its best to buy already dyed pink sugarpaste -- https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROFESSIONAL-250g-REGALICE-SUGARPASTE-ICING-PASTE-PINK-/160484577237?pt=Uk_Crafts_Cake_Decorating_MJ&hash=item255da04fd5 --rather than dying it yourself, or if you do wish to dye white sugarpaste yourself, dont use liquid, its best to use the gel :) -- https://www.cakedecoration.co.uk/merchant.ihtml?pid=7859&lastcatid=69&step=4 xx

Also once you have baked your sponges and put them together, you need to frost the entire cake so that the icing has a smooth surface to lie on, and the sides too! You can also use a bit of boiled jam if you dont want loads of frosting :) xx

https://www.craftcompany.co.uk/

This website is good for sugarcraft supplies. The 'balls' are called Dragees.

Rainbow Dust is actually non toxic but not edible. I would probably eat it, but I might not want to give it to other people's kids on that basis. The site above has edible glitters on it though and also 'lustre dust' which is shiny but not glittery.

wss^ :) i wouldnt want other kids having it just incase :) xx

Thanks for advice. The glitter was on parts of the cake which were just cosmetic. No-one ate it

Not bad for my first ever cake I think :)
