Hi all. I am wondering if anyone who is having difficulties conceiving has taken depo provera in the past? I took it many years ago and had no periods for the 3 years I was on it and for 3 years after that. I only started having periods after I was advised to start taking the pill; though I always suspected there was something wrong. Basically I have just had my 1st cycle with Clomid (50mg) and it has not worked. I am desperate to get to the bottom of my problems (unexplained infertility) and since the NHS don't care, I am asking you ladies for your advice and opinions.

Many thanks, Hopes. X

i had my last depo jab jan 3rd and i am having periods every 2 weeks i am lucky that i have a really good GP and after trying for 5 months he has started infrtillity tests (bloods, ultra sounds, internal ultra sounds) but i know how frustrated and confussed you must be feeling just keep on at your GP to get some tests started to help you get to the bottom of it.

good luck x

It took me 4 years of unexplained to get pregnant after depo. It messes with your fertility long term. Eventually I started having acupuncture and before the first course was finished I was pregnant (approx. 6 weeks after the first session). Maybe a coincidence but I'm convinced it helped. I had regular cycles and was ovulating fine but just wasn't getting pregnant.

I was on depo and it took two years for us to conceive.. I wouldn't give up hope hun it took me awhile just to start ovulating again.

I took depo 3 years ago and was on it for 1 year. Before I started it I had a regular 28 day cycle and no cramps or anything now after taking it I gained 50+ pounds in the time I was taking it and also my period is now very irregular the longest cycle being around 70 days, horrible cramps etc. Ive been trying to figure out if it is in relation to the depo but there isnt much information out there. My doctor thinks I have PCOS so Im not sure what the depo really does to your body but it obviously isnt good. just thought Id post this to let you know you arent alone!

I only had 1 depo injection and that was may 07, still no bfp, we are classed as unexplained too, i started ovulating 11 months after the depo should have run out. I'm on clomid and having iui, will prob start ivf in jan next year - not sure if it was the depo, but i would never ever go near it again, and would always advise people never to have it

Wow ladies, it sure seems to have wreaked havoc with many bodies! Like MrsSunshine - I don't know for sure if this is what has caused my problems but I wouldn't go near it again if I was paid! Good luck to all and I hope you get your BFP's soon. X

thanks to everyone for replying i will never be going on depo again EVER!!!!

I have seen many women have problems concieving after Depo as well as being diagnosed with pcos...
I am amazed it is still being used...
The general trend seems to be you can concieve but about 4 years is not unusual after being on Depo...
Do doctors warn women of the effects on their fertility and other associated health problems...?

I had the Depo shot (only one) back in June 2009. I am now currently being investigated for PCOS. I fell pregnant pretty quick before that awful drug. We have now been trying for over a year. Ive gained weight (ALOT!!!!), acne is awful and now there's a possibility i may struggle to have children.

The only thing my doctor said was 'its a wonder drug, for 3 months you may not have any periods and after you can start trying for a baby again'IDIOT!!! :dohh::dohh::dohh:

:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

I also was on the depot and after coming off I now have horrendous periods and been diagnosed with pcos. Also been given the unexplained label!
Xxx
