Ok, if I have my progesterone level done on CD21 and I get the result, how do I know if its low or not? and if its low should I get supplements for each month just incase????

Also, just suppose I got super lucky this month and got a BFP how would I know if I need progesterone supplements and would it be too late by CD21?

Had 2 MCs these last few months, last one was a chemical so im just pondering over progesterone....

New to all this blood test lark but getting some basic bloods done at GPs after these MCs but GP is soooooooooooo useless at fertility stuff, I had to tell them what day to do a progesterone test!!!!!!

Any thoughts girlies?? x

Def dont get supplements. Its not the kind of thing you mess about with.

Did you not have a pregnancy recently? In which case I would think your progesterone is fine as you conceived.

Wait for the results and ask your gp, they may refer you as tehy are just generalists and are not expected to know everything about fertility.

Honestly take comfort in the fact you have been pregnant. Maybe also get cd3 bloods too. If you get referred the FS will want everything, but def dont buy otc fertility aids. XX

Hi beachlover,

I have low progesterone, it was diagnosed (as part of testing following three miscarriages) in ultrasound scans, when they were scanning to give me the "all clear" after miscarriages. Each time it was only shortly after I ovulated, but the corpus luteum on my ovary was already breaking down (it's not meant to do this until later in the cycle), meaning that there was unlikely to be enough progesterone to support pregnancy. I am now taking prescribed supplements from three days after ovulation each cycle, don't know whether or not this will work.

After the first miscarriage I suspected that hormones were the cause (I have always had terrible PMS, which I understand can be a symptom of low progesterone), and felt fobbed off by doctors, right through to the recurrent miscarriage testing. The problem was only found out by accident - they weren't looking for it. I was told several times to "just try again".

I went private, which turned out well for me (though know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do this).

Best wishes.

Crypto1976 - just because one can conceive doesn't mean that everything (hormonally and otherwise) is necessarily OK. I do agree, though, that it wouldn't be a good plan to self-prescribe supplements and stuff!

Thanks both...I would certainly never take progesterone or any other hormone without Specialist prescription! But I do agree with smiler, just because you concieve does not mean the hormones are OK in the longer term ;-)

I suggested that it was a good sign!

I myself conceived and am on clomid and have several hormonal problems, leading to not conceiving at the moment, so I am not sure where you picked that up, apologies if it was ambiguous!

My point here is that there is a huge amount of self prescription that is going on on this site and frankly I find it worrying.

Someone is going to come a cropper one day!

I said take comfort- meaning look for the positives! I never suggested that that that was you good to go for ever more!

I agree, there does seem to be lots of self prescribing....although if everyone has a GP like mine its not surprising ;-) but it is scary to mess with these things...having said that I take a million vitamins!!!

good luck TTC, its such a trying and frustrating time. thanks for the advice x

hi...i am currently taking clomid....had my 1st scan at the hospital today to track my follicules....the nurse asked questions about my periods & when my 1st day o my last cycle was...i explained i came on full flow last sun....but spotted from the wed b4...she asked if this was my normal cycle pattern & i said yes.....i asked if i should be concerned.....she said if my fertility specialist knows about it then not to worry.....

to be honest ive been bit woried about this 4 some time....since jan ive had spotting for 2-3 days b4 each period....i mentioned this to fs, nothing was said bout it but just that i have to make sure i count day 1 as full flow, not spotting. Ive read on here about progesterone levels being low linked to spotting so i just phoned my doctor & he confirmed the bloodtests i had done in jan & aug of this year showed a good high peak of progesterone just after i ovulated which is good.....he said that my levels must drop quite drastically if i spot for 2-3 days...in fact this mth it was 3-4 days!!! he said to carry on with clomid and speak to the fs in my next appointment...but its not til jan 21st!! i wonder is this something that isnt helping me conceive?? my leutal phase is 13-14 days but if im spotting for roughly 3 days in that my phase is only bout 10 days.... x
