Hi all, I am new here and I am hoping that you can shed some light on my situation if anyone has had a similar situation. My DH and I have been TTC for 3 years with no luck. I have been using OPK and getting positives every month for about 18 months. DH has been evaluated and all is normal. Started going to an RE recently for further evaluation, and she has monitored my most recent cycle with bloodwork and ultrasound. I usually have about 30 day cycle like clockwork. This month I got pos OPK about day 17 and surge was confirmed with blood test and ultrasound. Went back on day 31 for bloodwork to check for pregnancy (I knew I wasn't) and progesterone test. Nurse called me a few hours after the bloodwork to let me know progesterone test says I didn't ovulate this month, and that she was calling in a prescription for Provera. At this point I could tell that my period would start at some point that day. She told me to take the provera, one per day, until bleeding started and then stop. I told her that I might start bleeding before I even got the prescription, but all she would tell me was to take it until bleeding started. I am so confused. Could this mean that all this time I have not been ovulating? And I have never missed a period, so why is Provera needed? I'm sorry this is so long, and I appreciate any responses as I am just so frustrated.

I was in a similiar situation except I was not getting any positive opks. When I first went to seek help I was also prescribed Provera. I have always had regular periods so, like you, I was confused. Why should I take this when I know my period will come, I have never missed even one? But my doc explained that provera would help "clean" everything out before starting Clomid, so I took it. I hope this helps a little. :flower:

i was prescribed provera when my period would not come...i was told take 10 days of it and then stop a new cycle should start in 3-7 days....well...i took it for 5 days and stopped and it came 3 days after stopping. i dont O on my own is what i was told because i wasnt having periods but u CAN have periods with out ovulating. i dont understand y shes trying to get u to take provera even if ure already on ure period....i would read up on that because t makes no since at all. it can actually make u stop bleeding if u take it while ure on ure period.
