Question about internal checks - for/against?

I was just wondering why some people are against internal checks and vaginal exams during labor...is there some harm they can cause? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

It's not a silly question at all. Educating yourself is important. Whether you agree or not is not the point, the point is that you are happy with your choice and that you are informed enough to know that you have a choice
