Question for the British girls in particular

Hi,
I am from the US and may partner is English. I love the name Miranda for a girl with Randy as the nickname....but would that be a bad nickname in the UK...? Would there be connotations for the slang meaning of randy?

Other than someone feeling randy? not sure if it'd catch on it's not really said by young kids much these days! Kids will always try find nicknames no matter what the name, when everyone found out my middle name was Illona all i got called was "a-loner" lol but i love my middle name xx

I relly like the name Miranda - but yeah the nickname sounds horrible! Sorry! I've always disliked it hearing it on US films (isn't it a common guys name too?)

I know what Randy means - thats why I wondered if it would be a bad nickname.... Really like Miranda but worried about Randy...
In the US, it has no bad connotations so it is fine as a nickname - Randy is often short for Randolph.
I think I will chicken out of Miranda... There are lots of other names I like. If we were both American and would be in the US - I would probably go for Miranda.

Randy would be VERY unique here and the 'horny' connotations would haunt her in her teens I fear!

I don't think that should put you off Miranda though. Not sure what else it could be shortened to though off the top of my head.

Miranda in SATC never shortens it to anything teehee

Hi, I'm from the UK originally, and I do think people there would be amused by 'Randy', especially younger people.

What about Mia as a nickname?

Yep I would Never choose Randy as a nn cause of the teasing that it would cause at secondary school.

I would go for Mindy as a nn rather than Randy.

I would suggest Miri too, a girl at my school was called Miranda and we called her Miri or Manda xx

I agree "Randy" is a definite no-no in the UK. There was a girl in my class at school called Miranda and everyone called her Manda or Mandy. Miri is nice if you could get it to stick as a nickname, it's more usually a shortened version of Miriam in the UK. Good luck with whatever you decide x

It sounds cute but i do think as she got older and maybe people may think it strange in public just because of the meaning of it here. Could use Randa as a nick name. I personally think Miri is a nice nickname for miranda

would all work well I think. I don't think anyone would call her Randy unless you started it. So just don't!
