Today i went for my last scan. The doctor said everything was good except that there is calcification in one of the ventricles of the heart. He said this is common but has referred us to get a eco-cardiagram by a pediatric cardiologist and also genetic counseling. After the doctor left the room the assistant told us not to worry they see it a lot and its usually fine.

i have called my doctor and left her a message. has anyone had this at a scan?
i cant help but worry until we know otherwise, but id be happy to hear from anyone who knows anything about this.

thanks.

:hugs: I haven't heard of this, but I'm not quite as far along as you in my pregnancy. I'm sure all is well and hope the pediatric cardiologist can get you in quickly and set your mind at ease.

I haven't heard of this either. I do wish you a very healthy pregnancy and baby! :hugs:

I haven't heard of it either, but sending you positive thoughts!

Sorry lovely, have not heard of this but good luck. I am sure all will be okay. xx

thanks everyone for your wishes, hopefully someone will come along soon who knows about this

You would have thought the doctor would have explained it to you.
How long do you have to wait to see a specialist?

i know.. but he didnt speak much english, it was not a good experience, from the get go he was tired and sighing all the time and then when he told me i didnt understand so i asked him to tell me in english and the only sentence he said in english was calcification of the ventricle of the heart. then he said his english isnt good.

i dont know when i will get to see a specialist i hope soon as the worrying is so hard on me, i know they say not to worry and that its usually nothing but im its mommy and i cant help but worry.

I know I have seen this question posted a time or two here, but that is about all. Sorry love. I am sure it will be just fine!

Ive seen someone else post something like this in here, and Im petty sure on 2nd look everything was ok. I cant remember who it was though hun, sorry.

Hopefully your dr will have rung back and explained to you? Its scary when people dont tell you whats happening.

xxx

I hope u get some answers!
Good luck

On the ultrasound notes was written the word golf balls, we looked this up and this is what we found..

"Echogenic foci in the ventricles of the heart (golf balls)
'Golf balls' appear as small white balls attached to a muscle in the heart, most commonly in the left ventricle.
Though occasionally associated with heart defects or chromosomal abnormalities, they are very common (about 4 per cent of babies have them) and most are probably a variation of normal; they are seen more frequently in babies of thin mothers, whose ultrasounds are clearer.

Echogenic cardiac foci are not an unusual or abnormal finding in an echocardiography of the heart. In fact, up to 7.4% of unborn children have echogenic cardiac foci when the mother is in the second trimester (months 3 to 6). The vast majority of children with echogenic cardiac foci are born normal. This is especially the case for the children of mothers who are under 35 years of age. Only rarely are echogenic cardiac foci associated with birth defects.
Many of the cases of echogenic cardiac foci go away by themselves by the time the child is born. In more than half of the cases, echogenic cardiac foci go away by age 5."

a friend helped me with part of this info, she knows who she is thank you. :hugs:
no word from the doctor yet.

Thinking of you. It sucks that the doctor wasn't more helpful. Sending you lots of good wishes.

my doctor just called. she said to come in and see her this week or next. unfortunately its going to freaking snow again. i cant believe it always happens when i need to go to the doctor. my doctor told me she will talk to us when we come and give us the necessary referrals. she said not to get too stressed out and thats its found in 4 % of all ultrasounds. i didnt want to push too much information on the phone with her, im sure she wont be albe to tell us much til we have this eco cardiogram done.

I have everything crossed for you hun! I am sure all will be fine. Try not to worry! :hugs:x
