I am going for my NT scan next Wednesday and am wondering how it works. Do we get to see the baby during the ultrasound? Will they tell us anything? I know I also get bloodwork done. So, if those results come back good then, I don't have to do more tests right??

I loved my NT scan! They measure everything very carefully which means you get to see your lil one for a longer time than if they just check heartbeat etc. We had a really nice tech and she answered our questions and told us that to her all looked fine so far. Maybe wait and let her first do your measurements and then ask your questions but you will probably be able to gauge what kind of person she is and just play it by ear. They will check all sorts of things during the scan but the NT bit of the scan is going to concentrate on the neckfold and measure how much liquid there is. Then combined with that measurement they take into consideration what ever they get from your blood tests and this will give you a number. I got mine back today and one twin has a 1:5500 chance and the other 1:3900 chance of Downs which makes them low risk. The average for women my age is apparently 1:60. The test is not 100% fail-proof but we are very happy with our odds and are not taking any further tests. But that is a decision that each person has to make for themselves. Hope this helped a bit and good luck with your scan on Wednesday :) xxx

I had my bloodwork before the NT scan (week 10 and 11, respectively) so I could have the genetic counseling right after the scan. You get the see your baby for a long time while they do all the measurements. It's really nice and relaxing to just watch your baby move around. :)

Week 17 is when I had the quad screen blood test and my OB called with the results today (week 18) for that and it was all normal. I had my anatomy/gender scan today and that was the best ultrasound to date. For that one you should get to see the baby's organs, bones, features, bloodflow, and heartbeat.

So many exciting things to come for you!!!

Thank you guys!! I have two children already but, didn't have a NT scan so I was unsure about it! I am 37 now, so I guess things have changed for me since it's been 7 years since I had my last baby.
