So... I guess you could say that this cycle coming up (I had a Provera induced period that started July 31) we will actually be TTC. We have been NTNP since October 2010. This cycle I am going to try to use OPK's. Any advice on when I should start testing? I have never used them before and I have very irregular periods and always have. We are not really sure I am even ovulating at all but hopefully this will do the trick and we get our BFP this month. Sorry for the long post but it feels good to actually write it.... One more question has anyone had any luck with OPK's? Thank you for reading...

Hm I'm a little confused, why did they out you on provera, I know you said you have irregular periods but isn t provera only to bring on af and doesn't help with ovulation? I'm not sure when you should start testing, maybe you could also try charting your temp just incase. Sorry I wasn't to helpful, but good luck!!!

I use OPKs from Amazon.com - I bought a combo pack of a bunch of OPKs and a few HPTs for dirt cheap. I've used them for two of the five cycles I've been TTC and they work great. It's hard to say when to start testing since your cycles are irregular, you generally ovulate about 10-16 days before the start of your next period. For me, it's between CD13 and CD18 so I started the OPK on CD10. I also chart my basal body temperatures though so that I can confirm ovulation based upon my thermal shift.

Since your cycles are irregular, you could chart your BBT or start charting your cervical fluid (and cervical position if you want) and try OPKs when you notice watery or egg white cervical fluid.

Sorry that was confusing... the doctor's office put me on Provera to start AF since it had been 3 months since my last AF. We are trying to see if I will ovulate on my own or if I will need help from Clomid. I think I am going to start testing around day 10 or so. I found a bunch of OPK's and a few HPT for really cheap....

I started my prometrium-induced AF on July 18, after going more than 3 months with no AF. But the doctor put me on clomid straight away. Since Feb. though, I've been charting bbt. I am using opks this cycle with the clomid, but never did with my irregular cycles as I feel I would've spent way too much money and obviously I wasn't ovulating... how long do you have to wait to see if you will ovulate?

I am going to wait till about 12 weeks or so from this cycle to call the doctor's office and see if they will do anything. They don't seem to want to put me on clomid for a while....
