My little girl is now 4 weeks old..

I've spent the past 4 weeks exclusively expressing and giving her a bottle..

Today for the first time since we came home from the hospital she is latching on and feeding :happydance:

My question is should I offer her a bottle after she is done on the breast?

She is finally up and over her birth weight and I don't want us to back track.. I'm just worried because I'm now used to her knowing what she takes at her feeds.. but I obviously can't tell what she takes from the breast

Just in need of some advice please

Thank you :hugs:

I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say thankyou so much for posting this!

My baby was 4 weeks yesterday, and I've exclusively expressed since he was born. I'm so hopefully that he'll learn to latch on eventually, and reading about other babies 'getting it' really helps.

Hope all continues to go well for you and the baby :)

Aww our babies share a birthday!!

The advice I got was just keep trying to latch on.. and try doing it before your baby is so hungry he is screaming :hugs:

Hey hun.

Is she content when she comes off the breast? She'll let you know if she needs anymore milk. If you want her off bottles then she might be a little upset but she'll adjust x

If you offer the bottle after a feed then I think she will over fill herself as the bottle flows easier. Then you stand the risk of her not being full off your booby any way.

I don't know if this is great advice but I think it is pretty acurate from my experience.

Heya :-)

She is content for 15 mins and then she starts whining so I've been putting her back to the breast and she feeds for about 15 mins before coming off by herself.. and this has been going on since about midday!

Could be a mixture of bringing in milk / getting used to breast flow and getting to the 5-6 week growth spurt. I'd hold out for a bit and see how you get on x

It takes 10 mins for a baby who has come off the breast to actually work out if they are still hungry. :D

Hang in there poppet - you're doing really well :hugs:

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Update - Amelia continued to feed every 15ish mins until 5, then she went until 7 before she started getting whiney.. then from 7 - 10.30 she was feeding every 15 mins again.. she managed to sleep until 4am.. and then she fed on and off for an hour and a half before going back to sleep until 8.30am..

One question - This morning she has been latching on for a few minutes then coming off and crying.. So I latch her back on and the cycle continues.. is there any specific reason why she is doing this?

Once again any advice is welcomed.. I am worrying so much and I feel totally clueless after weeks of just expressing!

xXx

could be wind or frustration at the flow - she's having to wok harder than she did with the bottle. Just keep a it honey :hugs:

Thank you :hugs:

I'm going to keep at it no matter what, I've wanted this from day one.. I'm just pleased my determination is finally paying off :happydance::cloud9:

xXx

And it's really wonderful to read too! I love a nice BFing success story!! :happydance:
