Hi ladies -

Well our first FS appointment was last 8 days ago and already the nurses and receptionists know me by first name. Been in the office 4 times in 1 week and called almost every day with another question. I'm sure they hate me! (Although they are by far the nicest group of nurses I've ever dealt with. The nicest doctor's office in general. You should SEE the waiting room! Fireplace, comfy leather sofas, coffee machine...). Anyway!

Yesterday's call was related to my hubby's low sperm count. In the middle of the conversation, the nurse mentioned, "Well, IUIs almost never "take" the first time." That really kind of crushed me! That combined with us not doing Clomid this month -- really wonder if it was even worth it.

Was wondering your expereinces. My sister did IUI with Clomid & injectible drugs and hers DID "take" the first time. Anyone else have success, or know of first-time success?

Thanks.

There is a 20% chance that it will work no matter if its your 1st or your 5th IUI. So, I think her comment was not appropriate!

I really don't think she should of said that!

But, my DH has low sperm motility and our FS (one of the top ones on Germany) has said she doesn't ever let her patients do IUI as the success rate isnt that great for the time considered when dealing with sperm problems. She is sending us straight for IVF after Clomid.

Hope this helps xxx

Hi, I am now on my third IUI. The nurse's comment was a bit out of order. The success rate is the same no matter what attempt you are on. If you have nice big follicles and plenty of spermies (usually anything over 200million is acceptable) then you have as good a chance as any!

The nurse really should not have said that b/c every woman and every man's body is different. What might not work on one couple may work on another couple.....
