Sam is 12 weeks and in the last week or so he has taken to having random screaming fits, and i mean really bad screaming where he can barely catch his breath, i can usually calm him after about 45 minutes but its awful to listen to him.

Its so random, all at different times of the day, one minute he can be fine and giggly and smiling at you then his bottom lip just goes and the screaming starts.

He's not hungry/not want dummy/cold/too hot/need changing/not wind.

Im wondering teething as he's dribbling all the time and chomping on anything near his mouth but would this cause the random screaming?

Im too scared to give him calpol if there is really nothing wrong.

Ive no idea what it is anyone else had their baby do this?

Thanks x

H is about the same stage and he has developed a really dramatic screech in the last few days - I have just been assuming it was hunger, wind or tiredness... I hope he's not teething yet!

It could be teething, is his temp up at all? also, when they're teething they get very small red spots appear on their face, kind of similar to a rash, have a feel of his gums and maybe try some teething gel (this is non medicated so wont do any harm) and if that calms him then he is probably teething and then you know its safe to give him a small dose of calpol :-) x

Might give that a try (I'm not stalking you tonight I promise Kayleigh!), as Evan is very similar. He's 13 weeks and for the past couple of weeks he has suddenly begun crying at random times, for no apparent reason.
I've been wondering about teething - I've heard about feeling their gums, but I've never felt them before so I don't know what to compare it to iykwim?!

lol Jacs!! Feel your gums then his :-) his will feel hotter and also look redder, just keep an eye on them day to day and also feel them when he's screaming and then again after he's stopped. You'll soon know what it feels like when their teething and when they're sore. I've been lucky up until now and not had to go through teething but not sure later teething is better.... lol x (still waiting for it to kick in)

My LO has a slight sore throat, which causes him to drool a lot. He also has screaming fits too. I think he's colicky, so we swaddle him, put him on his side and rock him in small, jerky movements while going "shhhh". It calms him after about five minutes. It's worth a try!

thanks everyone, im now thinking its teething, he was really chomping on my finger yeasterday and does feel quite warm and last night i could see his bottom gum was quite red. ive got some bonjela and in middle of him screaming yeasterday i managed to get some on his gum and he calmed down.

he doesnt have a rash on his face but he does on his chest from all his dribbling; i remember with DD1 she had an awful rash on her chin when teething but she didnt start till about 9/10 months. we've had a scream free day so far :)

Aww yeh thats definitely teething hun, glad the bonjela helped a bit, i think rashes are normaly caused from them dribbling and wiping it all over their faces!!

Hope it calms down for him soon :-) x
