arrrgghhhhhhhhhhh now i know the answer to this already so why do people think they can change my mind??
i was buying baby milk in tesco number 1 aptamil n the lady that served me said aww u have a newborn (i had lo in buggy facing away) i said no shes 7mnths she looked surprised n then went on to tell me she should be on hungry baby or follow on milk by now!!!
she is BLW n some days she eats more than others n tbh right now she is exploring new tastes rather than eating lots m happy knowing shes getting what she needs from her bottles whatever she does eat is a bonus she likes number 1 aptamil why would i change??
she sleeps atleast 8hrs at night sometimes more when she wakes up shes not screaming she babbles away very content till im up dressed n i give a bit of cereal she'll attempt that n then have a bottle shes a very happy baby hardly ever cries she breast fed till 5mnths n if anything is on the chunky side
why does everyone think she needs more????

I would have told her to mind her own business!! My LO is nearly 11 months and still on Aptamil stage 1. She is such a fussy eater that I daren't change her milk as it's the only thing I can guarantee she will eat each day!! Not sure what I am going to do once she turns one though.

cant you just carry on as you are if shes happy on it

i hate follow on milk its pointless. we used normal baby milk until he was 1 year as thats what its for!!! follow on milk is just to make more money grrr xx

You can keep your LO on formula past one.

At 1 year she will not need more than 20 oz with her solids. The minimum required is 12 oz of milk & dairy to give her the nutrients she needs from them. So you shouldnt rely on her milk when she's 1 + years. As for switching once she's one, you can start offering her cow milk mixed with her formula until she gets used to it's taste then start reducing the formula until she's only having cow milk. Or you can use toddlers milk as it has good amount of iron & vitamins which she needs if she's a fussy eater.

As for follow on formula we switched at 7 months as Omar was a fussy drinker & he was never keen on his formula & was always taking less than the minimum required for his age & wasnt keen on solids. He liked the follow on much more than his stage 1 (Aptamil) & started to drink more milk.

I just started using formula at doctor's request and the nurse explained they are thinking of changing formula consumption guidelines to go until two yrs old soon and I agree. If breastfeeding until two is advised, formula should be too...

I've been told the follow on formula isn't needed too,I wouldn't worry about it. Kayleigh is on Enfamil A+ (stage 1 or whatever) stuff.

follow on milk is often lower in calories and fat and less filling than the stage 1 milk but contains more vitamins and iron in terms of volume, it is just a big con.

we never switched to follow on,
we have jsut used some toddler milk though as lyssa has been quite ill and stopped eating, but we did stage one until a year x

I get this all the time! Skye is lactose intolerant and can't have 'normal' milk, but people still think they know best!

I tend to ignore silly comments now

A couple of people have said that follow on milk is a con to make more money. Forgive me but I don't understand why when follow on milk is the same price as stage 1 milk? What am I missing? :o

Follow on milk has almost double the iron of stage 1 formulas, after 6 months baby's natural supply of iron starts to drop and they need this extra iron. It isn't a con, there are real differences.

Saying it's a con is just showing ignorance considering it costs the same as stage one formula but has more nutrients. A con is defined as "to swindle; trick" how is it a trick?!

Look at this, everything in purple is what follow on milk has MORE of.

if they are having a balanced diet they should be getting that anyway from food. They make follow on so that they can advertise their milk because it isnt a 'breast milk substitute'. Stores then can offer points, vouchers etc, for the follow on milks. First stage milks are suitable until 12months, so why make one they can have a six months? ADVERTISEMENT!

Not every baby has a balanced diet. Also, can't stores offer points, vouchers, etc for any product, including first milk? That doesn't make everything a con..

No stores cant give points for first milks as the government supports breastfeeding and first milks are a breastmilk sub. Follow on milks dont claim to be a BM sub, so they arnt doing wrong by it being advertised, points given, money off etc

stores also cant give points/money off for stamps, cigs and lottery.

Oh that's weird, I get points at boots for anything baby including a few first milk cartons I've bought. Anyway, my point was more of just people shouldn't go around saying it's all a con when it really isn't. That's just going to make people who don't know any better say the same thing without even looking at it. Like the post in the baby section about the girl who said formula was just a con and fed the baby semi skimmed cows milk!
It doesn't cost more, it has more nutrients, it cannot be defined as a con because that completely misses the definition of a con.

Agree with Kalah. Omar wasnt keen on stage 1 & his milk intake started to drop at 5 months. We started weaning at 6.5 months, & he wasnt soo keen on solids. We switched to follow on at 7 months & he started to take more. We dont get any coupons, points or discounts here, so it's the same for us.

Follow on has more nutrients, iron & vitamins than stage 1. If LO doesnt take enough stage 1 after 6+ months, switching is not a bad thing.
