Hi everyone...just wondering how everyone is getting on with their RLT? I actually quite like it, I have always been a fan of herbal teas though. The only problem that I have found is that when I drink it, it makes me so hot even when I let it cool for a while. Everything seems to make me hot though lol. So what I am going to do is make up a jug and pop in the fridge and try is as an iced tea. I think it would still have the same effect.

I shall let you know how I get on.
sorry to bore you all but noone else cares about RLT at the moment or what I do with it. lol xxx

We do know that raspberry leaf should, like other herbal teas, be drunk in moderation. This is because the chemicals in raspberry leaf tea work their way through your body in the same way as a drug would.

Some midwives think it is not a good idea to take anything that might interfere with your labour. Our bodies are designed to give birth without any help. Trying to change the course of this natural process could be seen as just another way to induce or speed up your labour.

If you have already had a baby and your labour went smoothly first time around, there is no need for you to drink raspberry leaf tea for your next baby. The fact is that raspberry leaf tea is not right for everyone. Don't take it if:

•you've already had a baby and your labour was very short, three or fewer hours from start to finish
•you're scheduled to have a planned caesarean for a medical reason
•you've had a caesarean before
•you've had a premature labour before
•you've had vaginal bleeding in the second half of pregnancy
It would also be wise not to drink raspberry leaf if:

•you have a family or personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, endometriosis or fibroids
•you have any complications or health problems in your pregnancy
•you have high blood pressure
•you are expecting twins
If you do decide to try raspberry leaf tea, let your midwife know that you are planning to drink it. It will work best if you start taking the tea when you're about 32 weeks pregnant. This will give it enough time for it to build up in your body. Begin with one cup a day, gradually increasing to three cups. If you don't like the taste of the tea, you can buy raspberry leaf capsules or a raspberry leaf tincture in healthfood shops.

If you have strong Braxton Hicks contractions after drinking the tea, cut the amount you drink.

During early labour, while you are at home, you can either sip hot tea or suck ice cubes made from the tea. You could also take a flask of the tea with you into hospital or birth centre. Don't drink the tea if your labour is being induced or if you are having treatment with a hormone drip to speed up labour.

You may like to drink raspberry leaf tea after your baby is born. It's thought to:

•boost your immune system, because of the vitamins and minerals it contains
•help your uterus to shrink back to its pre-pregnant shape
•fight infection, because it has antibacterial qualities

i quite like RLT too! i love how natural and clean it tastes, not sweet and so on...
i've been drinking it since waay before i got pregnant, but when i did get pregnant, i didn't drink it as much because i'd heard it can sometimes cause the mama to lose the babe if it's drunk in large quantities, but it's def ok as each trimester advances... as i've progressed tho, i've been drinking more of it - usually hot or warm, but oftentimes cold too! i haven't found a connection between drinking it and increased BH or any other symptoms. maybe that's just me cause i do recall reading on here that many ladies experience that problem.
plus, i drink organic RLT so i figure it's 'better' for me and LO too......
to each her own i spose!
nice to hear that someone else likes RLT cause there are lots who don't :)

I bought some raspberry leaf tea today and the woman who served me in holland and barrett told me that i shouldnt really be taking it cos it brings on labour! Im really confused i thought it was just meant to tone and strengthen your uterus? anyhow im gonna ask my MW about it tomorrow just to make sure its ok

No it definately doesn't bring on labour hun it tones the uterus and may cause stronger braton hicks but won't bring on labour unless baby is ready to come.

I took the tablets with my pregnancy with dd and this time and no sign of pre-term labour due to taking them. x

Thanks hun, do you think the rlt helped your labour at all?

Is raspberry leaf tea the same as raspberry tea you find in a grocery store?

I just let mine cool so its not steaming, I'm always boiling hot too!

I really enjoy RLT too. I didnt use it with my first and labour took 23 hours and had had to have cyntocin. I used it with my second and laboured for just over 8 hours and no help, so I am very hopeful that it will reduce labour down further this time. It will be interesting to see!

i don't think so... you'd have to go to a health food store or even an organic grocery to find it.... the raspberry tea you'd find in a safeway or superstore, for instance, wouldn't be the right tea to help tone the uterus, it's more the sweetened mainstream herbal fruity variety :)
hope that helps!

RLT is tasty and just as effective chilled as it is hot. It helps tone the uterus and make the pushing stage more effective. It does not bring on labor. I never once had a BH while drinking RLT. It's also good after the birth for helping your uterus contract back. It is not the same as raspberry tea, which is simply flavored tea.

Hey Ya ladies,

I am with you lot who like it, except I absloutely love drinking it. Had my very first cup on Saturday evening, and I dont think Im going to have any bother increasing from 1 to 2 cups and beyond at the right time!!

I figure, Ive read so much on how it can help that I am willing to give anything a try!

Happy drinking ladies!!!
