no 1 ladies' detective agency books? ive read all of them and am desparate for more but he's yet to write them (hurry up!!) or is there anything similar out there? xx

Have you read any jasper Fforde? His books are amazing, I think they are better than the No1 Ladies Detective Agency and I did really enjoy that.

I wouldn't call them similar, and you have to bear with jasper as it takes a while to get in to but when you're there, they are incredible. There's a series of 5:

The Eyre Affair
Lost in a Good Book
Well of Lost Plots
Something Rotten
First Among Sequels

They are soooooooooooooooo good

I'm not a big Alexander McCall fan tbh, but if you're looking for slightly unusual 'detectivy' books then you could try :

Lindsay Davis's Falco Series set in Rome in AD70 they are full of humour, fantastic characters and great mysteries .... there are also loads of them :happydance: Start with 'The Silver Pigs' and work your way through them :flower:

SueGrafton also has a fantastic series of 'Alphabet' books starring Kinsey Millhone :D https://www.suegrafton.com/bookshelf.asp

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley!
Very quirky wonderful heroine. I really enjoyed this one. He has the next novel out now, too.
Another fun mystery series is the Mary Russell series by Laurie R. King.

Ian Sansom's Librarian series are similar I think, a librarian solves 'crimes' that can barely be called that, it's quite gentle and fun (I think).

And the Pelagia series about a nun who investigates things may be similar (haven't read it but the covers are lovely).

thanks everyone, might pop onto the amazon website and order myself a few! xx
