I got the letter through for my nuchal and dating scan in April. I don't know why but for some reason the whole pregnancy thing seems so much more of a reality now I'm getting letters about it... :cloud9: Did anyone else have that reaction?

Also got a letter saying I'm due for a smear - can't help thinking that isn't a good idea in pregnancy.....

Well things are done a bit differently here but I was super excited when my appointment with my OB was finally scheduled at 13 weeks! It made everything seem so much more real!!

As for the pap, it really depends on what you are most comfortable with. I had one done at around 8 weeks and had absolutely no side effects.

It felt real when i got my letter confirming my first 'booking' midwife app! couldnt stop smiling and rang OH and mam to tell them!!

I had a smear just before they did my scan yesterday, everything fine XX

Hi,
Glad you're starting to feel it's real.
I had a pap yesterday after an early scan. What I'm going to tell you shouldn't put you off having one - just reassure you if the same thing happens to you.
I think mine may have been an unpleasant experience due to the Doctor being nervous. It was in the early pregnancy unit, our baby was deemed to be fine, but as I was having a lot of pain they wanted to check everything. The Doctor that completed it was a junior doctor- who was very nice, but seem to panick a bit putting the speculum in and clamping.
Once it had gone in I got very bad cramps in my tummy - very like period cramps. It took her a while to get what she needed and the nurse said afterwards that I may need a tissue afterwards - I thought it was for the lube, but as I got up there was ALOT of blood. I needed to put on a maternity pad. The cramps stayed with me all day and I spent all last night worrying.
Today I had some brown blood upon wiping, but I feel that is to do with my cervix, not womb. I do have a cervical ectropion (a section where cells that are not normally present on the outside of the cervix, can be seen.) This can bleed if touched. Also I posted about this yesterday and lots of the girls have said that it is fine as the cervix has an increased sensitivity.

So what i'm saying is, please don't let my experiance put you off. If it is needed you should go for it. But don't worry if you experiance what I did. Another poster had one yesterday and didn't have any cramping or bleeding. Obviously had a better doctor/nurse.
I'm just focusing on the cramps and worrying!

Good luck!
Dx

Here, having a pap smear at your first prenatal is standard. So yeah, I think you should get one just to be sure everything's perfect!

Yeah,it's very standard(or so I've been told)...
My pregnancy was real when I saw the pictures, that freaked me out and calmed at the same time...

It felt real after the first appointment for me.. :baby:

Pregnancy sometimes still doesn't feel real to me, lol.

Like I said in another thread... if you're up to date with your smears, I can't see any reason in having one in pregnancy ??

It didn't matter to my doc - it's just... standard.
