Really bad upper back pain.

I woke up yesterday morning with bad back pain, its between my shoulder blades, from the base of my neck to where my shoulder blades end. It got so bad last night it hurt to breath. I'm honestly not sure if its just the muscles, a pinched nerve or maybe a rib out of place as a few days ago I had bad rib pain. I don't think it's anything serious (please let me know if I should be concerned) but its just really really painful. I was almost in tears last night and my DH was so wonderful, he gave me a nice massage and put a heat pack on it which helped a good bit. I woke up this morning and it was still sore, mainly the top part between my shoulder blades but as the day goes on it's spreading back down my back and getting pretty painful again. Its really hard to find a comfortable position and I've been using a heat/Ice pack on it. DH is going to pick me up some Epsom salt during his lunch break as I heard that's actually good for pregnancy and I hope that helps.

Anything else I can try? I have tried cracking my back and stretching but its such a hard area to reach. I'm hoping maybe DH will be willing to give me another massage today because that really seemed to help a bit. I kind of want to go jump in the shower/bath right now but I know he'll be home soon. Is this just a pregnancy thing (maybe the extra weight of my boobs/tummy is throwing things out of whack?) or did I just do something that hurt it.
 
I'm a physio. Could be coming from your neck based on the area you're feeling it. Lower neck pain can refer there. Try massage and neck stretches as well. I find lying on a tennis ball, or leaning against one on the wall, is a great way to massage yourself. You want to press so it's uncomfortable but not painful until it feels better. Then move to a new spot. If that doesn't help, is go see someone. Heat is good too.
