For my diabetes test tomorrow? How much liquid do I have to drink? Should I eat breakfast before? :(

No, it's supposed to be done fasting. No food or drink after midnight is what they told me. It's not so bad. The drink tastes like over sweetened fruit punch. And it's probably like 8-12 ounces, I don't remember.

Definitely don't eat from midnight... my MW was very clear on this!

Good luck :)

I've got mine Wednesday. I had one in my last pregnancy too so I know what to expect. Don't eat after 10pm and only drink water.

Hi ladies - Sorry to hijack your post OP

Does everyone have this test? I don't know anything about it...

Not everyone has it. In UK it's if you have a BMI higher than 30 at the start of pregnancy, if glucose keeps showing up in your urine or if there's a family history or some other reason they think you're at higher risk for it.

Don't have mine til August but already been given the instructions - nothing to eat or drink except for water from 10pm the night before. Fasting blood test done, and then I'll be given a measured amount or sugary drink that has to be drunk within 5 minutes followed by another blood test 2 hours later. Only after second blood test can you eat and drink again.

I'm surprised you haven't been properly informed.

I was told no food after midnight (not like I'm ever up that late ha) and only sips of water.

She told me at my last appt that I would have the test at my next appt, but no information was given. :( she's usually really good about it! I haven't eaten since about 9 PM last night and have only had water. Test in less than an hr! :( and I have to get my second dose of the antibody shot since I'm negitave and fiancé is positive. :( boooo!

Is this the 1 hour one?! I went on Saturday for that one, I did fast (they told me I didnt have to though) and had the orange drink. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Then, they drew my blood 1 hour later. I am awaiting the results and hope I don't have to go through the 3 hour one.

it sounds like your test in the US is the exact same as here... We have the orange drink also and are told not to fast. Dr said not to eat a huge breakfast right before or anything but something small is ok...i had a croissant and tea with no sugar about half hour before...and a bowl of cereal about two hours before that.
the tech doing the test said you just can't eat or drink during the test. You drink 10 ounces of the orange stuff then sit for an hour and then they take blood.

good luck on your test :)

Hope the test went well.

It's amazing how the times they do things differ in different countries. I'm negative and my husband is positive but I'll just get one anti-d shot at 28 weeks and no more til after baby is born (and only then if baby is positive) unless I have a bleed before 28weeks.

I've had bleeding all throughout my pregnancy. I got one at 5 weeks when it started. I'll be 27 weeks Thursday, that's why I'm getting mine today. And of course after baby is born if he is positive

Ah it's pretty different from in the UK then. Good luck x

This being your second shot makes sense then! I had an early shot when I was pregnant with my son because of lots of bleeds but luckily this pregnancy I haven't needed one yet.

Yep no food and i got given a bottle of lucozade :) annoying thing os waiting 2 hours after lol

In the US no need to fast for one hour, although I est proteins only before!!

It has a high fail rate which often leads to a 3 hour test with fasting.

Glad you passed!
