I've decided to go all out this month, but I've never charted my temps before because I have extremely erratic sleeping habits. I literally almost NEVER sleep 3 hours in a row.

So, which is more important; taking the temp at the same time every morning, or taking after 3 hours of sleep?

There are times when I don't get to sleep until 2 or 3 AM, and others where I am able to get to sleep by 1 AM. On those nights, I'm usually awake by 3 or 4and on the late nights I might make it until 5. As such, there will be mornings where I take the temperature 2 hours later than other mornings. Also, on weekends where my daughter sleeps in until 7, is it ok to wait that late to temp?

Thanks for your help ladies..... :hugs:

I would say 3 hours of sleep. There are websites that will help you adjust your temp if you can't take it at the same time every day, but I don't know what adjustment you could make for not sleeping enough.

I think 3 to 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep should be fine to chart your temp.

I agree! I think sleeping for at least 3 hours is more important. That's how I do it.

I also have very erratic sleep pattern and I believe the most important thing is to take my temp after I've had as much sleep as I can, before getting out of bed. So before you go to sleep make sure that thing is by your bed ready to stick under your tongue asap. Its really weird the first couple weeks to wake up and have to hold it because oops you gotta take your temp LOL. My husband thinks its bizzare but hes supportive

Yep, I seem to be having that same problem. Last night I got to sleep around 12 or 12:30 and woke up around 2:30. I knew I hadn't slept enough and I somehow managed to fall back to sleep until 3. I didn't take my temp because I didn't think I had slept enough, so I took it instead at 5 when I woke up again..... yet that wasn't enough time either and my temp was .2 degrees higher than normal. This sucks! I don't think I'm going to be able to do this, I just don't think I can sleep long enough.

is there a medical reason you're not sleeping? This seems highly unhealthy to me. :( I'm not trying to get into your business, just wondering if maybe we could come up with ideas as to help you somehow

I've had trouble sleeping for as long as I can remember. I've honestly never paid much attention to it until now, as I always figured it was due to having kids. Now that I've started temping i've come to realize how much of a problem this might actually be. I think I'm going to talk to my doc next time I see him. Thanks for your help!! :hugs:

Have you ever tried taking Melatonin? My sister was like you-- had a really terrible time sleeping. She take Melatonin at bedtime & sleeps like a rock, now! She swears by it. I'm scared to try it because she said it gives her really weird, vivid dreams.
