Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

ive been taking progesterone how since ovulation has anyone taking it had any side affects, ive been getting real hot sweats like a hot neck and it just seems to be make me feel really down has anyone else had this?

I've heard of dhea - from what I understand it's used to try and improve egg quality and that you need it to be prescribed for you.

I only took progesterone from BFP, so didn't notice any symptoms on their own if that makes sense. Are your cycles OK on it taking it after O? I wasn't a fan of the idea of taking it after O since I was worry it would delay AF and luckily my FS didn't ask me to take it until BFP anyway.

Hope you're going ok Kelly x

Kelly, I took progesterone from ovulation as well. Ginny, the reason is that it is supposed to help thicken the lining, giving a better implantation. Starting at bfp is a little late although still better than not at all (if you need it). It never seemed to delay a loss for me. I can't say about af as I usually fall pregnant pretty quickly.
As for side effects, yes, it can make you a bit hot and sweaty. I suppose that means it's doing its job

I think for me I didn't really need it maybe that's why it was fine to start a bit later. From the 2 check up scans I had while not pregnant my lining was fine and most of my losses have been when your placenta should be making all the hormones anyway.

I'm so frustrated and confused ladies. Tomorrow it will be 6 weeks post d&c and today we finally got the results from pathology on my last pregnancy. It was a partial molar pregnancy.

I thought these results would give me insight but I'm more confused than ever.

Brief history of mine below. I would love if you ladies could maybe tell me if you knew something that would be the cause of my losses.

loss #1 : 6-weeksih fetal pole on 8 week scan. Miscarried naturally no testing.

loss #2 : 10 week scan shows 9 week fetus with no hb. Miscarried naturally but saved the tissue. 45X monosomy/Turner's.
*thyroid, lupus anticoagulant, diabetes, blood clotting panel all come back normal*

loss #3 : chemical pregnancy lost before rounding out week 5.

loss #4 : Strange ultrasounds that showed no growth. Pathology shows partial molar pregnancy.
*karyotype results show DH has normal male chromosomes. I have a pericenteric inversion on chromosome 9. Told it is a 'normal population variant' and not likely the cause of my miscarriages*

*Repeat thyroid, diabetes, lupus anticoagulant tests come up normal once again*

- I am 25 years old. Husband is 30. And no matter how much I research I can't find something that would explain my losses. Only thing is maybe poor egg quality? But would that cause a partial molar? I'm so confused!

Hello, so sorry for your losses...I've had 3 and it's so frustrating to not have answers. I'm going through testing at the moment too.

Have you had a FSH test? I had one on day 4 which came back at 9 which is at the top end of normal and indicates my eggs are a bit crappy. I've been taking a ton of 'egg healthy' supplements which makes me feel a bit like I'm doing something!

Hello all,

I've had 2 different sets of blood tests after 3 miscarriages. The first set from the GP indicated my FSH was on the high side of normal (9) on cd4 and on the second set from the RPL consultant indicated my anti thrombin 3 level was low indicating a clotting problem.

I've just had a retest today for anti thrombin 3 to see if it's a problem second time round.

Has anyone had this problem - can't find much on dr.google

If the test is negative the second time, do we ignore the first result which was low, or would I still get some treatment? (I used baby aspirin on MC 3 which obviously didn't do enough!)

I don't know if I'm hopeful it's positive for the sake of having an 'answer' or worried that I've got a clotting issue which may affect me in the future........

Hi LPF - no I haven't had that test done. Maybe because of my age and that fact that my ovulation is very regular they never thought to test it? I don't know. It's certainly something to discuss with my specialist this Tuesday when I see him.

I totally understand the double-edged sword of wanting something to be wrong so you have an answer and treatment but then also being worried at the future ramifications. I'm wishing you the best possible outcome :hugs:.

Hi ladies,

I am here again, I have lost 5th time now, 6 pregnancies in total, after 3 losses I was referred to st Georges, all tests came back normal but they put me on Aspirin, and progesterone, and I lost that pregnancy, reading here and online, I asked to be refereed to dr shehata team, all my losses were very early 5-7 weeks, and I was very grateful, I finally did it beyond that time, all scans showed it was perfect pregnancy but sadly, due urine infection I gave birth on 24 weeks exactly. Thank God my baby was fighter, and he has grown to 10 months with no major issues.

Last week I got BFP, and today I started bleeding, and went to EPU, and it confirmed what I have already knew! Not sure what happened this time, I started on the medications since finding out, not sure if not starting the vitamins, and aspirin made the difference? As with my baby boy started them before, and the steroid on BFP even though I was advised to start them two weeks before but it was a surprise, and we didn’t expected to last but it did.

This time not sure what went wrong? I would love another baby but I am too scared now, that my body maybe can’t do it anymore. I have been referred to dr shahata’s team again, and I hope there is an answer for me.

What tests have you done?? when I got tested by my GP and when I was referred to my local hospital, all tests came back fine, and they told me it is just bad luck, keep trying but I refused to accept that. After researching, I found out main causes for miscarriage, although it is huge area, it is either blood clotting issue, or very special treatment called natural killer cell, which basically means that your immune system attack the fetus, so you get steroid which lower your immune system. After reading this, I figured out that could be the cause for my problem, and it was and the treatment gave me a live birth. I also noticed from my own research most ladies who had successful birth after NK treatment were having early losses before the second trimester.

Hey again ladies. I got my referral for te recurrent miscarriage clinic through today. It is on the 8th of October. I was told that it would take 8-10 weeks for my appointment to come through, and now I am petrified that it has come through 5 weeks later. My appointment is with a gynaecology nurse specialist. Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks ladies.

Hi loe

I have no experience with a gynae nurse Hun, I'm not so sure I would want to see a nurse, I would want a consultant I think

Having said that, they will have a procedure in place and do the same tests I expect

Are you uk based

Xx

Hi,

Yes I am in Scotland. I just called up, apparently there was no waiting list! It is based in an early pregnancy unit if a nearby hospital, try dealt with me during my first miscarriage and I was fairly happy with my care.

When I called, they told me that basically they will note down my history and take bloods. I presume they are looking for clotting disorders and the like?

The last time I miscarried, they told me that they would be able to investigate two out of four causes after two miscarriages, but I declined as I wanted everything done at once. I presume now try are going to investigate four causes? I'm guessing these would include clotting disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, physiological abnormalities, and maybe nk cells? I am really nervous as I suffer from really bad anxiety about my health anyway, so not feeling too great today!

Ladies - can you get / is it safe to use progesterone cream?

My temps are a bit low (tests just back fine for thyroid) and my lp has been 11 days (on b6 now which is helping a bit) but I wondered if a progesterone top up might help too.

Where can you get it from? Any advice?

It tends to be the blood clotting and thyroid tests that are done first . Some get offered the karotyping, I didn't till my 5th loss. There is a few clotting tests so they might count each one individually, aps, Leiden factor V oh and thyroid antibodies could be another (tablet trial )

You won't get an nk cell test unless you get referred to either Mr Shehata in Surrey or Professor Quenby at Coventry. They are he only two that do it and you have to pay Professor Quenby

Xx

Oh a scan too to check for uterine abnormalities

Amazon sell it I think , I can't recommend a brand though xx

LPF, I'm not sure what you mean by low temps. Do you mean that the temperature shift after ovulation is not strong enough?

I would speak to your GP first. They can prescribe you cyclogest, which is a pessary/suppository (can be used both ways) and is supposed to be more effective than a cream. You start it a couple of days after ovulation (once you have a confirmed temperature shift) until about 11dpo if you have sensitive tests or until you get your period.
The way I would argue with your GP is that it is a cheap can't harm, can't hurt treatment and you really need them to help you somehow...
Maybe find some research/trials online and print them out to show your GP when you go.

When I temp, although it shows ovulation, but a bit slow on the shift, the temps overall are on the low sign of normal, even with a shift. I read that can be a sign of low progesterone.

My GP won't help at all. Totally useless (all 4 in one practice!)

I'm under an RPL consultant but he's very much anti giving out stuff for the sake of it and doesn't really believe in low progesterone etc. he has to have hard empirical evidence from test results before prescribing anything.

Can you share a link to your temps?

The results from the promise trial (progesterone for unexplained recurrent miscarriages) are due out next month so keep an eye on them. If they support the medication you'll have hard evidence to hit your doctors with.
The only other thing I can suggest is to change GP or keep at them with tears and all you can to convince them you need help.
What treatment is your RPL clinic offering you?

Went for my appointment yesterday. The consultant did an examination took lots of bloods and looked at my scan results thinks I may have a polyp so wants a better look. Got to have a hysteroscopy. X
