Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

I think we've sort of had the same issues. I've also got MTHFR. I think it messes with your egg quality because of the deficiencies it can cause.

We've considered IVF with PGS but I think if we keep trying naturally, we will officially get a good one. No way I would do donor eggs as long as I can naturally get pregnant on my own. The choice is yours and don't let your doctor make you feel as though you have no other option. At the very least, seek a second opinion.

Also forgot to say, so sorry for all of your losses and the loss you're currently dealing with :hugs:. All of us in this thread understand your pain all too well.

Lpf don't leave here, we are your friends and you need us more than ever. :huge:

Sandp, there certainly is hope there always is. Many women on this thread have had six or more loses and brought home their rainbow. I've had sixteen first tri loses and a stillbirth recurrently, I've not had my rainbow after recurrent loss yet but I'm hopeful that this pregnancy may be it (I'm 12 weeks tomorrow, six scans so far and all good)!

What are you thyroid levels like?

Sandp, did you get the details of the genetic abnormalities? Is there a recurring theme or are they random?
I've never been to one but I wonder whether a geneticist could help answer some of your questions.
In the meantime, I believe there are supplements you and your partner can take to improve egg and sperm quality. I suppose you've looked into that?

Hi all - lots of hugs to you ladies who are going thro losses. My heart goes out to you. I am going in for a D&C on Monday, this is my 6th loss which likely another chromosomally abnormal baby. My previous ones were a chemical pregnancy in IUI, ectopic in IVF, chromosomally abnormal baby in FET, chromosomally abnormal baby in IUI, blighted ovum we didn't do testing naturally, and then this 6th one which is likely to be chromosomally abnormal baby as well.

I've had the RPL panel done - all clear. I seem to have MTHFR so am taking cerafolin high dose folic acid daily. I have a thyroid condition and take 88mg of medication daily. Apart from that, the doctors haven't found anything abnormal with us.

Given these losses my doctor is recommending a change in plan, and it I'm discouraging us from trying naturally to avoid the pain of a miscarriage from a chromosomally abnormal baby. He is asking us to consider IVF with PGD, or donor eggs.

Have you ladies heard of cases where the couple has had success after so many losses? Is there hope? I am looking for some positive energy to get through this MC.

I'm not quite a success story, but I like to think I was nearly A success. I had 6 first tri losses then carried my next pregnancy to 27w. I suffered a placental abruption and lost Isaac after 2 days in nicu

My first tri losses were due to my thyroid being under active, thyroid antibodies, elevated nk cells, urea plasma, hidden c and a septum . I took antibiotics for the infections, prednisone for the nk cells and thyroid antibodies and had septa the surgery

I now have to take hydroxycloroquine

Have you tried any meds?

X

So sorry to hear of your losses Sand.

I've had 5 losses; currently almost 14 weeks when previously I never got past 8 weeks. So there is hope, but I know it takes its toll emotionally so take care of yourself & good luck with deciding what to do next.

Thank you Squig34! :hugs:

Thank you for the info confuzion!

Sand, I'm so very sorry about your losses. I've only had 2 and it's been horrible. I couldn't imagine having 6. Keep your head up though. There are lots of ladies around that have had 6 or more and then went on to have their rainbow babies.

Sorry to hear about your losses Sand :( Do you fall pregnant very easily (thought it's worth asking even though you've mentioned ivf)? I've heard of hyperfertility where your body basically accepts every fertilised egg - even abnormal ones where usually it wouldn't take and you'd get a BFN for that cycle.

Otherwise I would seriously consider IVF with PGD - especially if you are considering having any more cycles of IVF anyway. I looked seriously into surrogacy (as someone who needed a surrogate) and it's a very common practice to try and minimise miscarriages for the surrogates - because unfortunately I guess you can just have random abnormalities.

Hi everyone else, I know I don't write in here as often but I keep up with everyone. Hope - so excited that you'll be ttc again soon :) x

Hello ladies,
this is my first post on this thread. I will try to be short. This is my story, in chronological order. I had one ectopic which was misdiagnosed and led to closure of my left tube (no longer useful...). I subsequently got pregnant in my uterus, from my then-working right side and had a mc between 6 and 7 weeks. I never saw the hb. After that, I had a cp, started bleeding at 5w. Then had another ectopic, again misdiagnosed. It was removed surgically and left my tube scarred. To avoid a third ectopic I recently went through IVF and got pregnant. I had very strong beta's, but when I went in for my scan at 7w2d the baby (who was in uterus) was measuring one week behind and no hb. This makes it three lost uterine pregnancies. Before embarking in another IVF I would really want to make sure there is no problem with me rejecting the baby or things as such. Last year I had the following tests done:
-cardiolipin antibody IGG IGM panel
- high specificity antiphospholipid antibody panel
-factor V Leiden mutation panel
-TSH
-lupus anticoagulant panel

Everything came back normal. I am not sure whether I should have them tested again.

I found this website where they seem to list many more testing: https://www.rialab.com/miscarriages_prevented.php

What do you think? Is there any tests besides the 5 I have had that I should do? Any information is appreciated. I have just learned about the drug prednisone. Does any of you have experience with it?

Thanks and sorry for such a long posting. :hugs:

Hi eab

I took prednisone after my 6th loss as I have high nk cells and thyroid antibodies.

It sort of worked as I got past the 6w where I lost all my previous babies, I carried Isaac to 27w then had a placental abruption . My specialist thinks it is still immune related to I now take an anti malaria drug too xx

Re further testing I would get your thyroid antibodies tested, nk cells, a full thrombophilia screen (includes mthfr, protein c, protein s plus others)

Xx

My thyroid levels are normal now, a bit on the low side of TSH reading. My doctor prefer it stay there.

Thank you so much for your reply. The two times we tested the baby for abnormalities, it was different each time.

We have added CoQ10 ubiquinol to our supplements. Is there anything else you are aware of that can help improve egg quality?

Also have changed my lifestyle to include 30+ mins of exercise every day and lost some weight. I've completely eliminated caffeine for now 2.5 years. Make sure I drink 8 glasses of water a day.

I am so sorry for your loss, sending a virtual hug your way. I pray you have your baby soon.

What tests helped you find these conditions? I had all the tests in repeated loss panel done - all clear.

So sorry to hear of your losses Sand.

Thank you for your kind words, and wish you the very best for this pregnancy. How did you cope with your losses, and pull yourself through?

Dear eabwhab I am so sorry to hear about your losses my heart goes out to you. Wish you the very best, and I hope you have your perfect baby soon. I have also had 6 losses of which one was 1 ectopic, so I can understand your pain. I am not knowledgeable on the tests, hopefully others can guide you. You say the ectopics were misdiagnosed, why is that? Are your doctors closely watching you? I thought I'd send positive thoughts your way anyway. Hang in there.

No, these losses have been over 4 years, and there was a full year in between of TTC with around 6 IUI;s where I didn't get pregnant. how can I find out if I was hyperfertile? What did you learn about surrogacy - if you don't mind can you share any useful links or pointers?

* Thyroid peroxidase antibodies
* Nk cells
* Infection testing via a company in Greece (I'm uk)
*3d internal scan diagnosed septum

Xx

Thank you. I think it's been mostly my faith & the belief that it would happen for me someday that kept me going. Also after my first loss, I didn't allow myself to get excited or hopeful. I was also busy pushing for testing & new things to try - I got lots on info on here & knowing there were still things I could try gave me hope. But our issues are different (although I was never able to get testing on my lost babies so I can't say for sure the ones that had hb's weren't abnormal, my feeling is that they weren't)- I've been treated for implantation problems. It's such a hard journey, I hope you have plenty of support built up around you, friends, family, DH, work? :hugs:

Sorry to hear of your losses eabwhab. I don't have anything further to add to what Hope39 has already suggested. Good luck.

Welcome eabwhab, I'm so sorry for your losses and what you have been through. I can't even imagine your pain. I've had 2 losses myself and pregnant for the 3rd time and extremely terrified. I'm only 4 weeks along today, so just barely. I have only made it to 5 1/2 and 6 weeks. The other tests the ladies have suggested sound good. Have you had your progesterone levels checked during a non-pregnant cycle to see if your body is producing it at the correct levels? I know that that can cause issues as well. My thoughts and prayers are being sent your way that you will get your rainbow. :hugs:
