Bit of a pointless thread, but i have just had a phone call from work to say that 'in principle' they have agreed my hours to be reduced from 40 to 32, so I will not have to work fridays!:happydance::happydance::happydance:

Now just got to agree the pay drop (salary should be reduced by £6700 for the year but its complicated, and I am trying to get less of a pay reduction)

Things will be very tight financially, but at least I get 3 days a week with Reuben after November:cloud9

Congrats hon :)

Are you hoping to go back up to 40?
If so - have you discussed that with your employer?
When I spoke to ACAS about it, they explained it would be a permenant change to my contract which I couldn't automatically reverse.

x

i have no idea if i want to do 40 in the future. i can not request another change for 12 months, and even then, they will have the right to decline my request. Sooooooooo, it has been a big decision to make, especially as i was really career driven before i had Reuben.

however, even with the £500 less per month, the decision feels right, i am fortunate enough i dont have to work full time, so i get to see more of my little man :happydance::happydance::happydance:

Sorry to hijack this thread but just wondering, how do u go about requesting reduced hours on return to work? Kx

With me i went into work and asked HR to send me through the companies policy on returning to work and flexi hours and we went from there

just speak to hr dept, by law, all companies, have to have a flexible working policy, that means that if you are responsible for a child under 6, you can request a change in the start/finish times you are required to work (so that you can work in line with school hours etc) and also the amount of hours per week.
However, it is not a legal requirement for this wish to be granted, just that the company have to assess if your request is reasonable ( and i guess) will have no impact on what you do ( i.e you will not have to have some of your old duties passed to someone else)
i am lucky, as part of my job has ceased ( due to some offices closing) so instead of being 'found' additional work to do when i go back, I have just asked for the hours to match the work i had left iykwim. In this, i am not saying that i want to reduce my hours, but then have the issue of how the rest of my work will be completed

I'm hoping to reduce my hours when I go back in September too. I've tried to contact my boss who is constantly out of the country, should I just put my request in writing and/or contact HR direct?

I would just sent a letter to your HR dept, at my work they have to respond within 28 days, to at least say that they will set up a meeting

I have had the finalised letter this morning too, so it is official - no more fridays for me!
