So I got the news he was more concerned about the placement of the babies placenta. Also a possibility of a cercumvallnt placenta. I go for an ultrasound o .the 18th. To make sure it's not on my scar. He said if it is I have to have a hysterectomy. Anyone else been through this or know anything about it

My placenta is praevia and on my scar and the specialists have said it’s very rare that they have to do a hysterectomy as a result. They are prepared for the worst however, unless it’s “accreta” (the placenta growing through the scar) it’s more likely that they can remove the placenta just as normal. It sounds harsh that your specialist would flat out say hysterectomy, I’ve done a lot of research. Your sonographer should be able to identify these issues through frequent scans. I’m booked for my section next week at 36 weeks due to the praevia. Hope it all works out for you Xx

Hysterectomy is always a last resort, and only for uncontrolled bleeding or if you have electively requested to have one for eg sterilisation or to ease endometriosis.

If you have placenta accreta, the risks of uncontrolled haemorrhage are higher than most, but it certainly doesn’t mean a certain hysterectomy

(I am a doc and only last week completed the national Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma course which is required for all obstetric registrars before becoming a consultant in the U.K.)

Ohy thank you this has been helpful. I just had the sinking feeling I was going to go through menopause and no longer be capable of having any more children.
