i wonder if anyone can help me, im due to return back to work 16th january, i work 5-8 an im struggling to find child care for my daughter i work in the nhs and i dont wanna go back to work. ive rang unison for advice and they said if i dont return back to work i have to pay back a pecentage of my maternity pay. if i do return back to work i have to go back for 3 months so i dont need to pay any back. say if i dont go back to work how long would it take before i can go other benefits, im a single parent so please dont judge me. and also ive asked for differnt hours an there not willing to help me

If you asked for flexible working and been refused then I can't see a problem in you claiming benefits straight away. You would have struggled in April anyway as you would need to work 24 hours a week to get tax credits.
Apply NOW for benefits as they can take some time and may only pay you from the day you apply.
If you get child maintenance then you will probably be better off working if you can find a more suitable job as tax credits don't take it into account and neither do housing benefit  but Income Support only allows you to keep a small amount of it.

I got mine as quick as they could process them and my reason was refused my
Request for 16 hrs. I'm single too. My claim took about 6 weeks but you
Get a month run on with WTC so as long as ur local job centre sort your claim promptly I doubt you will be waiting for your money
So to speak x
