is any of u girlies rhesus negative ?? if so can someone explain what it means??

all i kno is i have to have an injection in my arse every now and then and it kills :)
xx

one of the antigens in the blood is the Rhesus Factor, which refers to the prsesnce or absense of the antigen D in your bloodstream. it isnt really important, until pregnancy or a blood transfusion...
in pregnancy if the mother is rhesus neg, but baby is rhesus positive then the mother's body (ie. imune system may try and fight baby, cos it is an unknown...) but usually, its ok. then the mum needs to have a shot to make them rhesus positive... because otherwise if another baby is rhesus neg, the body will know the code, and be able to fight it...

so sorry that prob makes no sense, i am doing nursing, and we got taught it... but my head is unable to produce functioning sentences at the moment. i don't know why you are getting shots in the bum though... sure that isnt iron, for anaemia? and it doesnt have to be the bum for intra muscular... it can be the upperarms... so if your uncomfortable... xx

Im rhesus neg, had my injection last friday for it.
Basically they inject you with another persons white blood cells, so you have antibodies in your system.

The injection was in my arm and didnt hurt at all, just the liquid going in felt funny!
x

Im also rhesus neg and had my injection a while ago in my arm, it didnt hurt, i think it hurts more when they take your blood. Basically if your blood mixes with the babys, it cna harm the baby so you just have to be really careful and if you hav any bleeds or bangs to your tummy then you have to hav another injection of Anti-D. xx

that makes more sense :) thanks girls... the onli thing that has pissed me off now tho is the fact that the nurses have been givin me these injections in my bum and they cud be givin them in my arm :S i will be having a word with my MW about this lol

thanks again x x

Yep, i am..

it's basically.. Where, if your rh positive, your body has the anti-D present already, which are basically attached to your blood cells, however, if you're rh negative, your body doesn't have these, therefore when you get pregnant, if your baby has a positive blood group - some of the baby's blood can leak into yours, and then your body sees the baby as a disease/infection, and therefore fights the baby..

However, the injections will prevent your body seeing the baby as a disease, and you'll both be fine - you shouldn't need it, however if you have a REALLY bad fall contact your midwife as you might need a top up, otherwise you should only need an injection at 28 weeks and at birth (if it turns out your baby is positive blood group) - some midwives give one at 34 weeks as well i think?

If your baby has a negative blood group (like you) you don't actually need the injection, but they can't tell what blood group bubs is, till after they're born, unless the FOB was to be checked - then if they were negative, bubs would deffiantly be a negative, however, if they were positive, you'd not know.

i am and i had the injection in my arm too lol deff have a word:Dx

Im rh- and i didn't have any injections during pregnancy as i was scared i'd hurt LO :dohh: so decided to wait until she was born, get her blood checked and then see if i need the jab. Luckily she has the exact same blood type as me so i ddint need the jabb in the end. If FOB is rh- you dont need the jabs

I'm RN and i had an Anti D injection at 28 weeks, had in my arm, pretty painless x

that makes more sense :) thanks girls... the onli thing that has pissed me off now tho is the fact that the nurses have been givin me these injections in my bum and they cud be givin them in my arm :S i will be having a word with my MW about this lol

My midwife also gave them in my bum.. And will NOT give them anywhere else, as they said at my hospital.. it's more effective, and going to work faster and more effectively there.. and there's padding there too..
xxxx

^^ agree my doctor only gives it in my bum and said it's more effective. I got mine at 28 weeks and will be getting it in the hospital once LO is born.

its cos there is a greatee muscle mass in the bum, soo it is broken up and transported round the body faster... but if ur r gtn it pre labour that doesnt need to be a factor xx

:D hehe, don't worry yourself.. if you don't like something the midwife is doing - just ask them haha.. my midwife must think i ask wayyyy to many questions.. but i just like to know why they do stuff
