Well it's only a matter of hours before we can go home :) :) :)

It's been an experience! Friday was ok, the twins are pretty much in a routine, they slept most of Friday afternoon till OH left me as he was working night's. To cut a long story short I ended up having ZERO sleep Fri night and Sat morning. The twins were playing up constantly, just as I got one settled (after an hour of trying!) the other would wake up.

Saturday day OH came back and we shared feeds, but the twins were only taking half feeds then falling asleep, then waking up two hours later screaming as they were hungry. OH left again for night at work and it all carried on. By 9.30pm I had hit breaking point, the tears came and would not stop, I have never cried so much in my life, I seriously could not stop even when I tried to, Darcie was full of wind and I could not get her wind up, so I was crying, she was getting irritable and I just couldn't cope.

Luckily a midwife opened my room door looking for another girl and came in like superwoman :) she said "right you, get into bed and these two are coming with me, I'll bring them back at 6.30am before I leave my shift" she was really lovely and calmed me down alot, I slept soundly till 8.30am when OH arrived back and the midwives said they were letting me sleep as I had needed it.

Turns out that I have extremely windy children :) (take after their father!) and all the midwives have struggled getting their wind up, but that I just had to persist longer. So yesterday we did, and had a lovely peaceful day, babies on full feeds, sleeping 5 hours :) last night was a little more problematic but I got a least 5 hours sleep in total so I feel ok today.

Sooooo just waiting to be discharged now, can't believe they are ready to go home! Callum seems to have put on loads of weight in one week and is now looking like a real baby instead of a little old man. Can't wait to get in my own bed tonight though, regardless of the amount of sleep :) xx

Hoping you are all home now.
Sounds like an emotional weekend. Lando my youngest was a nightmare as a young baby, and I remember being so tired that when I started crying I just couldn't stop, so you have all my sympathy.
Anyway hope you are all safe at home, and hopefully the twins will keep sleeping 5 hours at night, sleep is so important to keep our emotions in check. :flower:

Hope your twins are now settled in at home.

I found my time in hospital with the twins very emotional and hard, the days were fine when my husband was there but when he had to leave I seemed to go into meltdown, the twins either wouldn't feed or would both want feedibg at the same time, the midwifes would help attach them but then would leave and I could move the twins so was stuck until they came back.

Honestly I have never cried so much in my life, no sleep on the Thursday night, the midwifes had to take the twins away on fri and sat nite as they wouldn't settle for a hour or so, so I could sleep and I felt like a failure.

Since we have come home and I decided to bottle instead of breast feed as i obviously didn't fill them up, I have felt so much calmer, which appears to have calmed them as well and I actually got some sleep last night, not much but way more than hospital.

Hope things improve now you are home :flower: and that the winding gets easier. Xxxxx

Well ladies I think I spoke too soon, last night was horrendous :( we've had about an hour and half sleep. From the minute they came through the door Darcie started screaming the house down, no food would settle her, she wanted picking up constantly, it took me 3 hours with her on my chest for her to fall asleep. Then as soon as I put her down Callum starts screaming, both me and OH were getting totally stressed out so much so we started arguing with each other over what was wrong with them.

They are really windy babies, but now they have started grunting like they are trying to get their own wind up some how, but it was scaring me so much, plus Darcie seemed to be gulping her milk down and kind of hyper ventilating, is this down to her crying so much and stressing herself out, or could it be something worse?????

The Health Visitor is coming today thank god! Wish you could bring the midwives home with you! xx

It sounds like Colic, I never realised how bad this could be until I had Lando. We tried all the remedies and nothing really worked for him, BUT they do grow out of it, just rest when you can and change your routine so you can cope with this. With Lando he had it between the hours of midnight and 5am the worst, so I always made sure I went to bed at around 10pm and got a couple of hours sleep. Use everyone you can. My midwife said Lando was one of the worst, so hopefully your twins wont be so bad. PS I breastfed Lando and was told breastfed babies don't get Colic often -but some do.
If it turns out to be colic you have all my sympathy :flower: as one of my biggest dreads is the twins getting this.

:hugs: sorry to hear about your lack of sleep.

I hope the health visitor has some answers/suggestions to help the twins settle and assure you that they are ok. xxx

Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep. :(

I know it does not seem like much of a consolation right now, but here's my experience with colic: my DS had HORRIBLE colic. We would take turns (15 minutes each) trying to console him, but nothing seemed to work for longer than a minute and he would start howling again. His little face would get bright red, and his entire body would tense up as if he was in awful pain. Poor little guy. However, after crying his little eyes out for hours each afternoon, he would sleep really well, and he started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old! He would sleep 12 hours straight, and I know it was because he was so exhausted. The colic went away at about 10 weeks, and he kept sleeping through the night like a champ. He's now 11 years old, and he has always been a great sleeper. It was awful when we were going through it, but it did go away!

So keep up all the great work, and know that it will eventually get better, and who knows... maybe you'll have some champion sleepers. :hugs:

I hope things get easier fast. My second had colic and it was a real challenge. The exercise ball is the best thing ever for helping get the wind up. Just sit on it holding your baby and bounce. The other thing that was great was baby massage. Rub their bellies clockwise and then hold their little knees to their chest for 30 seconds. Alternate between the two to get all the toots out. Gas is not your friend and getting it all out helps a ton. Huge hugs!

Thanks ladies, well it looks like Infacol is a life saver they seem to be much better since we started that last night. However they are full of cold and finding it hard to breathe and settle. OH has just got them some Saline drops so just waiting to see if they work. Never realised it would be this much hard work especially when you've had 3 hours sleep in two days :( poor little things xxx
