I got a letter in the post today, firstly stating that I am rh- D which I already knew from my first pregnancy, the second letter in the envelope was about my blood tests coming back and Im rubella non-immune! They sent me a leaflet with it saying that the baby could be born with eye, brain and other problems, Im a bit worried, what is rubella non immune and has anyone ever had it?

It means you aren't immune to rubella (german measles), and so if you catch it you are at risk of the side effects, I would try not to worry, just avoid places with lots of children and keep good hygeine and you should be fine. Talk to your MW if you are worried hun :hugs:

Im not immune and never have been despite having the vaccine various times LOL.

Dont worry, its more dangerous in 1st tri and you are past that x

I found out today I'm non-immune to rubella at my midwife appointment, from bloods taken at 9 weeks...they didn't tell me earlier, and I guess they didn't see such a problem? There's nothing they can do to protect you and can't give you a live vaccine whilst pregnant, so I was told they'd give me a shot after the birth to protect future pregnancies...try not to worry, I'm not thinking about it...I've figured that, since I've not had rubella in my life, the chances of getting it during these few months are just as unlikely x

Im not immune either, no point worrying german measles is very rare! :)

Same here!

They will offer you the MMR vaccine before you leave hospital, after giving birth.

i was not ammune when i was pregnant with my son, they gave me the jab again before i left the hospital after giving birth. Try not to worry to much its not very common now a days :hugs:

I have had the MMR 3 times and still show as none immune so I declined to have it again. x

I wasn't immune last time. If you were to come into contact with Rubella it could be dangerous but otherwise there should be no problem. I had a jab just after giving birth and I am immune this time xx

Don't worry - as pp's have said, rubella is not particularly common, and once you are past the first trimester the risk is much less. Once past 20 weeks there is barely any risk at all.

I was not immune in my first pregnancy, although I know I had been immunised as I had it at secondary school and clearly remember it, but sometimes it doesn't work, or the immunity doesn't last. I had the MMR after I had Hayden and am now immune  You should have 2 injections a month apart for the best chance of it working properly.

Risks during pregnancy

The risks from getting rubella during the different stages of pregnancy are outlined below.
First trimester (weeks 0 to 13): If you contract rubella during the first trimester, there is a very high risk (up to 90%) that your baby will be affected. The earlier in your pregnancy that you catch rubella, the greater the risk to the baby.
After week 10, the risk to the baby is reduced, however, they may develop problems with their sight or hearing, which may not become apparent until they are older.
Second trimester (weeks 14 to 26): In weeks 14 and 15, there is still a risk to the baby. They may develop problems with their sight or hearing that may not become apparent until they are older.
Third trimester (week 27 to birth): After week 16, the risk to the baby is low.
If you are pregnant and you know that you are not immune to rubella, you must keep away from anyone who has rubella, particularly during your first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
