Right i feel so stupid asking this but i have to now...im so lost!

Iv eaten salmon here and there but only when i lived at mums so i dont know how she used to make it??...i want to make a meal with it as i know its good for the LO...

firstly how do you make it

I know some people eat it as it comes...but what is the difference in taste when eating it as it comes or cooking it??

If i go to a fishmonger and i ask for boneless...is there still a chance there will be bones in it?

Is there different kinds of salmon? fillet etc or are they the same?

And what do you serve it with?

I usually grill salmon on the BBQ. It's got a lot of flavor on its own so just a little salt and pepper on top before you cook it works, or you can baste it with a sauce or marinade as well (I tend to just make things up as I go depending on what I have available in the kitchen, so it's rarely ever the same twice).

If you're not into grilling on the BBQ, you can poach or fry it in a pan, or bake it in the oven.

When I buy it, I generally order fillets as they are boneless, though they do have the skin on one side (I peel that off after cooking and before serving). I don't remember the last time I found bones in a piece of salmon unless it was a cut that included bones!

There's a bunch of different things you can serve it with. I like rice or rice pilaf, and veggies like squash, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas or snap peas are all yummy with it. Mashed potatoes, or mashed squash or sweet potatoes are also yummy too, served with wilted baby spinach.

One dish I've made (though not too often because it is a rich tasting fish) is beer battered fried salmon served with sweet potato chips. So basically fancy fish and chips! :D

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds salmon fillets
lemon pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste
salt to taste
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup vegetable oil

DIRECTIONS
Season salmon fillets with lemon pepper, garlic powder, and salt.
In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and vegetable oil until sugar is dissolved. Place fish in a large resealable plastic bag with the soy sauce mixture, seal, and turn to coat. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Preheat grill for medium heat.
Lightly oil grill grate. Place salmon on the preheated grill, and discard marinade. Cook salmon for 6 to 8 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

OR

I have one thing that I do every time I cook salmon. I always make a little foil packet for each fillet and close it up, leaving a little room for air to circulate inside. If you bake the foil packets on a cookie sheet at 425 for about 15 minutes (slightly longer depending on number of fillets), the salmon cooks to perfection every time! This is a great recipe to use when preparing salmon in foil packets... it poaches gently in its on juices and always comes out so tender and delicious!

(ALL COPIED FROM A SITE)

i dont like fish but my son loves salmon its his fave, so i make him a serving of salmon usually i kinda shallow simmer it, steam it or will oven it. All healthy options, i put his with veg , either new potatoes or mash as he isn't a fan of pasta or rice yet.

But rice would prob be nice with it, if you like rice.

some lemon on your salmon i bet is nice, sounds fab just a shame i cant stand fish

Thankyou for replying...i finally think i know what i am doing!!

Anyone who steams the salmon how long do you usually steam it for?!

I didn't know salmon and veg tastes nice together...and i never knew the fillets were bonesless

Ooooh we love salmon in our house !

we have fillets baked in foil in the oven for 30 mins with cherry tomaots and fresh basil leaves

Might have it for tea now tonight :happydance:

I buy the birdseye salmon that you cook in a bag in the oven, nice and easy! I usually serve with new potatoes and steamed veg

I leave my husband to do the salmon cooking but we just grill if with salt, pepper and powdered garlic added to it, and sometimes a squirt of lemon. I hate fish but I can eat salmon like that as it's quite tasty. Ours never has bones. I have no idea what sort of cut it it but it's down the fish so there is skin all around the edge and a bone in the middle and thats it.

We eat it with salad and new potatoes - all buttery and warm mmm...

a boneless filet shouldnt have more than a couple here and there, you have to be very careful. a steak has to have bones usually to hold it together but it comes away decently when you pull the backbone out of it. youll have more than a filet though. mmmmmmm i love me some Atlantic Salmon, too bad it costs a buttload of money!!
