Hi ladies, Hope your all well :)
Olivia has always had problems with swallowing. When she was in NICU she used to choke on milk with every feed, her sats would drop dramatically (like into the 40s.) She carried on doing it when she got home and was finally given reflux meds and thickener which tbh didnt really make a difference at all. We have tried so many times to try and get this sorted but every time we have mentioned it it has just been dismissed (no swallow study, barium..nothing..)

Nearly two years on shes still doing it, she doesnt really do it on milk anymore but everytime she has water/juice she chokes/coughs/gags etc. We had a new HV come round a few days ago and she saw Olivia choking constantly on her juice so she has referred her to SALT. Dont really know what to expect or what they will be able to do.

Grace had her 8-12 months development check at the same time (trying to explain corrected age to the HV was like talking to a brick wall.) She isnt doing anything she expected her to be doing. Still isnt rolling over, picking up/playing with toys etc.

Anyone got any experience with SALT? xx

Andrew has been visited by two different SALT - one did concentrate on feeding issues, whereas the other concentrated on speech development.

The former has subsequently referred us onto the community dietitian, as Andrew now seems to be tolerating lumps and it is more of a flavour/taste issue.

(The latter announced that she is happy with Andrew's vocalisations being roughly equivalent to an 18m-old [his level of development] and said that she'll be back in a couple of years!]
