My son is auditioning for Music College this term and as a result we are travelling the length and breadth of the country over the next few weeks.
So we thought it was about time for a sat nav update. We went off to argos and purchased a Mio spirit on the grounds that it was cheeper than Tom Tom and had free map updates for life.
We took it home and as I started to set it up, it looked great until it asked me to set up my home address. I put in the postcode and rather than my street (which is the only street with the post code,) it showed 6 surrounding streets without giving any indication of what was the correct street.
I then tried other postcodes and got similar results.
The box claims it has full post code search. Well it does, because it will show the correct street randomly placed in a list of 5 or six, but unless you know the road name you don't stand a chance.
We took it back to argos although sat navs are exempt from the money back guarantee, but the manager after trying his address and that of several employees and finding that it was utterly down to guess work, refunded our money so we bought a Tom Tom as we know that they at least know where they are going to!

gosh how awful! those things have been known to send people into rivers and down the wrong way of the motor way!

Woahh thats weird! Whats the point in a sat nav if it cant show you where you are heading?!

Seems a bit stupid, whats the point!? Glad you got your exchange!!

Glad you got your refund. We have a TomTom and cant fault it,although its getting past its best so we are looking for a new one.

Talking of SatNav disasters,we once put our home address into a Garmin satnav and it searched for where we were.We didnt notice where it said we were so kept driving and following. We ended up going around a town 3 times before we realised something wasnt right, looked at the satnav and it thought we were in Paris. We werent,we were in Shrewsbury:haha:

Glad you got a refund. Weve had our tomtom 4 years now and we have never had any problems, its been brilliant

I love my tomtom but between me and OH we managed to shut it in my glove box an smashed the screen up! :/ was gutted. It still worked for ages though just had to keep turning the screen when typing in postcodes! I want another one :) x
