Scan measuring baby 5 weeks behind

Well today I had my 5th growth scan. It didn't go so well.

The consultant was very rude about my size. She said "Where on earth is your bump? I guess you are a smoker??" (For the record I have never even tried smoking!). I'm just very tiny!

She then directed all the questions about baby to my mum as if I wasn't even in the room. I'm 21 years old for goodness sake!

Anyway.....she started to scan and shake her head. She measured him and he is measuring 30 weeks. I am 35 weeks on saturday. I really should be 37 weeks but my dates changed when he didn't grow while I was getting my appendix out at 8 weeks pregnant.
He is 4lb. Consultant said he should be 5lb 2oz. The umbilical cord was scanned and needs to be rescanned on tuesday.

Consultant said that to be on the safe side it may be best to get him out before his due date. She was very vague about this.

I have know idea what to think. My OH is on Army training for the next two weeks and does not have his phone!

Sorry it's so long! I just wanted to know if anyone has been in the same situation?

Maybe he is just going to be tiny! She sounds awful, I would have made a complaint. I hope it all works out.

First of all you're nearing 35 weeks, so thats in your favour. Growth scans arent always accurate either, so lets hope you can manage as long as possible.

You havent failed cooking your LO! Its just sometimes what happens. Man, if thats the case, my LO was only half baked I would have done anything to get to 34 weeks but hey, I never said I was a good cook though!

if he's 4lb at 35 weeks thats good, my sisters baby was born at 37 weeks weighting only 3. 13lb!! and that was all because she didnt care for herself, drank every day and smoked like a chimly

don't worry about stupid consulatnts! i never found them any use when i was preg with my lil girl. if you feel fine in yourself and eating well then no need to worry yourself.

p.s i never had a bump, even at 41 weeks, my little girl was back to back so i didnt show at all.

as sb22 said, growth scans arent always accurate. You havent done anything wrong and dont take into consideration what that ignorant doc said.

Growth scans arnt always accurate. I had a small baby but he had IUGR and that was identified at 29 weeks, my placenta wasnt working properly. I had growth scans every 2 weeks plus scans to check waters and blood flow from placenta, consultant appoinments and ctg monitoring every 2 days from 29 weeks. If they were really concerned they would have said they were really worried. Connor was born at 37 weeks weighing 4lb 8oz. Some people just have small babys

Awwww hun that consultant sounded very rude!! As if you don't have enough to worry about already, she should have said things a little more tactfully.

Don't feel down, I'm sure everything is okay with bubs, you've probably done a wonderful job hun you may just be having a small baby xxx

I know someone who had to have there baby ealier because it jus wasnt growing anymore, now thats nothing to be worried about, he is perfectly healthy and is just rigbht for his age now, hes not small now or anything! dont worry about it! not every baby is gone be the same she sounds like an arse, hopefuly next time yhou will get someone who cares! jeez xxx

I would be asking to change consultant, what a cheeky bitch!

Can you get a second opinion? Sometimes they can be wrong about the estimated weight of baby, and Im skeptical to believe your consultant was very thorough considering her attitude towards you. Hope everything is ok xxx

just because you might be having a small baby your bot to blame..
some babies are just naturally like that..but like the others have said them scans arnt always accurate and can be out by a pound or too..if babys already 4lb tho and each day gaining more weight i dont think you'v got nothing to worry about
i was only 5lb 1 and i was perfectly healthy x
