Hello all,

I just had my booking appt which went very well. The midwife mentioned that my partner can't accompany me for the first scan because of COVID and this has really upset me. I am terrified of hospitals and also it's his first baby :(

Does anyone know if this policy can be challenged in the UK? We live together and wfh so if I have COVID, so does he.

I thought most hospitals were lifting that rule guess not  I no if you have a private scan he can go, I no not ideal but it's the only way can suggest for him to be there xx

I’m so sorry, it’s been really hard! I’m 28 weeks pregnant now and have had 3 hospital scans so far and my husband hasn’t been allowed at any of them. My hospital are now allowing partners at 12 and 20 week scans but not at growth scans so we’re still missing out. The only way my husband has seen our baby has been by having a private scan.
You could try speaking to your local maternity voices partnership but chances are, they’ll already be trying to push for partners to be allowed at scans.
Antenatal care has been so different during this pandemic but it is starting to get better again so hopefully your partner will be able to see a scan!
I have found that at each of my scans, the staff have gone out of their way to be kind and reassuring. They know how hard it is for women at the moment.

There is no wiggle room hun, security escorted someone off whilst I was there as he refused to leave,ur allowed ur phone to FaceTime but that’s it xx

It makes me so sad. It's so unnecessary. Escorting someone out is utterly ridiculous and wrong. I was in the early pregnancy unit earlier on this time and a woman came in who appeared to be very sick and they insisted her partner leave her side (the entire department actually). Maybe the private scan is the way to go...

Just had a quick look and many are closed, some have the same or stricter requirements and some are extortionate (£300+!)

At my hospital we’re not allowed FaceTime or even any video recording. If we wanted to find out the sex at the 20 week scan we were allowed to have partners on speaker phone but that was it! I’ve been given lots of lovely scan photos for free each time though.

Do u know it could’ve been that here,I just saw the lady with the phone in front of her speaking, could’ve just been on speaker phone, surely u would think they would let u now under these circumstances, that’s terrible,it didn’t bother me going alone but that’s how I like it,so many women were there looking nervous or upset and no free pics here, everyone was getting asked if they had paid before even going in lol xx

That’s shocking. Some women get bad news at those scans and to think of them just alone is devastating. It’s so nerve wracking, I would be sick to my stomach alone.

I’m so sorry that you’ve been told this.

Aww that stinks you can't even video the scan. I've seen others video their scan? Where do you live..I take it not the US.

I'm sorry your going through this.

My sister wasn’t allowed to video her scan and her husband wasn’t allowed in either ! She’s been to 3 scans upto now on her own . One of those was at a private clinic too !

She’s due next month so god knows what’s going to happen with the Covid .

It’s such a shame and so sad for all those parents to be ! I hope some restrictions get lifted soon !
