Hey ladies,

Just wondering why some people are getting scans prior to the uk-standard 12 weeks? Are you paying for them, or is it an option on the NHS? Sorry if I seem really stupid :dohh: , but I'm assuming I have to wait until 12 weeks and it would be nice to know if I could maybe be able to get an earlier one!

Thanks!!

I think you get earlier ones if you have prior conditions or your high risk. Some women pay private to get them done early for peace of mind.

I'm not sure how things work where you are, but I only got an early scan because I had some spotting and cramping at 7 weeks.

It's usually if you have a history of 2 or more miscarriages or if you have bleeding or pain.

hi i got my early scans bc im high risk with 4 mc . and i think alot of the ladies who dont get nhs scans pay private :flower:

Some Mums who have had losses get reassurance scans.

Previous ectopics too.

Some for bleeding.

It's just a case of who is priority.

I am in the over 35 category ( only just.....lol) I got a dating scan to be sure of my dates and will also get the 13 week NT scan. They date the pregnancy so that the blood work and scan for downs etc is done at just the right time. I had my previous 2 pregnancies in the UK and was well under 35 then......I just had the standard 12 and 20 week scans then as was seen as low risk. Hope this helps x

I paid for mine hun. It cost £65 in Leeds. I wanted to be able to tell my eldest soon as possible And wanted to see a heartbeat at 8 weeks for peace of mind xx
