School/Uni!!

I just wish I knew where I was gonna be in a few months! it all depends where OH is stationed! I can plan for the first few months, but after that I have NO IDEA what I can do/will have the ability to do!

I couldn't imagine what that would be like! I've got it lucky huh :) I like to know what is going to happen/what I can do, especially with baby. Your going to have a busy time making snap decisions all the time! :)

Yeah I agree, I wouldnt want to put my LO in daycare so young! Besides when their little like that youll never get that back, enjoy your time with LO cuz itll go fast! Unless you have somebody who will help out taking care of your baby for free.

I hope maybe my family will help out but I just don't know what's going to happen around next year! Exactly I find it too young :(

Hey hun, I have a 14 month old :)
I studied my last year of school while I was pregnant from home and did until LO was a few months old. I'm now doing a psychology degree from home :) Not gonna lie, it is NOT easy. you need to be really motivated and set time aside but its definitely do-able!

I'm in the UK and do an Open University course. I had already completed A-levels before falling pregnant so signed for an Open University course and started whilst pregnant. It's basically a degree you do from home.. very flexible and you can take between 3 and 6 years to complete it so if things change it can adapt around you.

I found it easy to fit LO around it at first but now he's 14 months old and wayy more attention and time-consuming, my mum helps with him one a day a week so I can crack on with studying. It helps to have support and people who you trust who are happy babysitting. I'd love to put him in nursery but it's too expensive! xx

14 months wow must be full on! :) I've finished school, thank god, and have started uni, but haven't found anything online! I'm going to keep looking and I am super motivated to do it :)

So you would put him in nursery if you could? Yeah I think your A levels is the end of school yeah? I finished to and have already started uni. The distance degrees in New Zealand are quite limited :( Yeah hopefully I get the help of my family too! xx

I worked until 37weeks pregnant and stayed at school til 38weeks and then gave birth at 39weeks :) Then returned to school when DD was 11weeks. I've now been offered a place to go to uni to do midwifery next year, grade depending :) xx

WOW! You trooper :D What happened with your LO when you returned to school, who looked after him/her? And awesome I want to go into midwifery!! xx

In most countries there would be an open university! https://www.openpolytechnic.ac.nz/ this is for NZ!

Open Polytechnic is great but they don't offer the course I want to do. I found one that does offer midwifery but am I asking too much of myself to raise a small child and take on such a full on course?

I personally wouldn't have done it whilst Tyler was younger. It would've been really hard! You won't find midwifery as a distance subject anywhere because it's 50% practical/50% theory. When did you want to do it?

I'm currently 8 months pregnant and still attending Uni full-time. I break up next month until October, and the baby is due the day Uni ends. Then I don't go back until mid october, so i'll have all that time with LO. When I go back to uni, I get free- child care from the university, so I can still study :)

Oh really? They do offer midwifery distance here, occasionally you have to travel down to the uni, but that's very rarely. I'm going to research it more, and I planned to start this time next year?? :/

And Laurhilou that sounds so perfect! Lucky you, your holidays are opposite to mine and seems to be alot longer as well! We have on campus child care aswell, but I can't already bring LO in at 4 months thats just far too young :(

Could you maybe wait another year? then you get the first year and a bit home!

Tbh, I don't really want to leave Tyler on his own at 5/6 months, but to be honest I feel good in the sense that I will be finishing my final year at university and then i can go into teaching and give him the world, financially we'll be in a great position, and I'll be able to teach him all the great things. But the way I see it, I'd rather get my education finished whilst I get free child-care because child-care normally costs so much.

Hope u find something!! x

So many things to think about! I suppose i'll know when LO arrives what will be right. Knowing me I will probably never want to leave :) Haha x

Yeah definitely! I wouldn't have wanted to put him in daycare really young (younger than 9 months say) but now I think it would be really good for him. it'd be brilliant for him to interact with all the other babies and children- really help his social skills I think as we don't know many babies his age, as well as do all the messy play things etc that they do at nursery, that you don't have the opportunities to do at home. I really think it would do him a lot of good to go to nursery once or twice a week! xx

I'm in a regular university, and they offer 8 week night classes, as well as 8 week online classes. Besides semesters there are "terms" which are half semesters. So I'm taking 3 courses for the first term (9 credits; two night classes and 1 online class) and 2 or 3 for the next term. Maybe you could see if your university offers something similar? Usually you could search the course uncatalogued online to see what they offer.

My little one is due after the first term, so I'll only have online classes to deal with once she's here.

My mum looks after her 3 days a week and my childminder does the other 2 xx

im in my final year of my degree- i took a gap year- as my due date was in september- she was born in the october- so i endeed up going back when she was very nearly a year old.
i'd really recommend looking into a gap year- i didnt miss any milestones and these days lyssa loves going to her childminders- she has her own little friends there that she adores.
the whole parenting/studying balance is a bit of a nightmare- but it's worth it- by the time im fully qualified as a teacher i'll be able to provide lyssa with a much brighter future than i could otherwise.
