Just wondering is baby no2 birth easier and faster then the first??:winkwink:

My experience was with my first it was pretty text book, in labour from about 2am monday morning, it was slow and steady all day Monday. Went into the mlu at 6pm on the Monday and I was already 6cm, got into the pool about 7 my waters broke at 9.30 and he was born at 10pm, I just had the gas and air.

After saying I will never do this again :haha: I was back in the same place 18 months later and had a totally different labour and birth. Had a sweep on the Wednesday and on the Thursday I had a few pains they were not steady but got slightly worse that evening so I decided to go in to the mlu.

We arrived about 9 and when I was checked over I was only 2cm so no point in having any gas or getting into the pool yet!! The pains got very intense and with no break in between, I was in severe pain and had a show about 11.30 so the midwife decided to check me again and I was about 8 cm and she could feel the waters ready to come and literally within minutes my waters had broke and all I could hear was the midwife saying i can see the head get ready to push and my little princess was born about 3 pushes later, at 11.50 pm. No time for the pool or any gas, worst part for me was that I had to get stitches again!!

So literally in about 2 hours I went from 2cm to giving birth have to say it was pretty amazing, so it was defo faster but I wouldn't say easier as the pain was still pretty intense but maybe easier in that it didn't last as long.

She is already 4 months today xx

My first was 13 hours, but straightforward. Being a FTM I didn't realise that what I was having wasn't Braxton Hicks! So stayed at home all day huffing my way through them. By the time the midwife turned up at 6pm I was 5cm. Got to the hospital, and DS was at 8:30, 45 minutes after arriving at the hospital with no gas or other medications, 2.5 weeks early.

DD was born at home one day before her due date. Waters broke 7:30am and had very mild contractions all day. By 5pm they were much stronger and established labour started. DD was born after 2 hours and 45 minutes of established labour. Much, much faster, again with no gas/medications. Yes, more painful but I prefer the short-term pain approach! I'm now 22 weeks with our third and I'm half expecting to launch it out like a rocket :haha: I think I'll be disappointed if it is a) overdue and b) takes forever!

For me, personally! Oh yes, definitely!
However dd1 was a undiagnoised breech and as we didnt find out until 9cm and she was stuck fast a EMCS was needed. Pretty much my worse nightmare of a labour/birth. But as it wasnt really far to compare I will let you know about dd2 & dd3

dd2, 3hr total, no pain relief and some stitches
dd3, 1hr 30 mins total, no pain relief and some stitches

I was much calmer with both of those births, did some hypno-birthing for the VBAC's which I always recommend (for a VBAC or not!) and took a much more matter of fact stance on thing.

I do wonder how #4 will play out....

1st labour induced. About 13 hours from 3cm to my delivery by emcs after failed forceps delivery.

2nd vbac. 3 hours 10 minutes from 4cm to him being born. So vastly quicker and easier :-)

My 1st was actually quicker by a couple of hours. But my 2nd was much more straight forward and easier, until pushing which hurt more, but was over a lot quicker!

My ds1 was 8 hours no pain relief strapped to monitors as he was a month early, although I was in labour for 2 days before hand but the hospital didn't believe me!

My ds 2 was 2hrs from first contraction till he was born, again no pain relief but I just about made it to the birthing pool xx

It was true for me! :)

First birth - Waters went full of meconium, contractions started 1 hour later 4/5 minutes apart, around 9-12 hours after waters broke my cervix was still high and tight, so I was induced with a pessary. A while later I started running a fever, ended up in theatre as they needed baby out, EMCS was risky due to my fever but it was decided they would do one if forceps failed, luckily they didn't, DS was delivered via forceps (also had an episiotomy) after almost 3 hours of pushing. My labour was 38 hours from waters breaking and 37 hours from the start of contractions. I had morphiene twice, gas and air and an epidural which was topped up but I didn't feel it worked fully. All in all horrible and traumatic for me.

Second birth - 9 hours of regular contractions, started pain relief at around midnight in the shape of a TENS, birthing ball, a warm bath or nothing but rotating my hips, at around 4am I got the gas and air, 4.50am waters went, started pushing at 5am and she was here at 5.08am born on a mix of gas and air or nothing (I kept forgetting I had the gas :dohh:) with just a small first degree tear requiring one stitch. In my eyes it was the perfect labour :)

My first was 4 hours active labour without me realising I'd been in early labour for most of the afternoon. Got to the hospital at quarter to midnight and he was born at 26 minutes past. The doctors were worried about his heart rate so I had an episiotomy to help deliver him quicker which at the time didn't hurt but afterwards was incredibly painful.

My second was 3 and 1/2 hours with no signs of early labour at all. We got to the hospital at quarter past 3 and was already 7cm. He was born at 5 past 4 with no pain relief. I did need stitches again and recovering from those was way more painful than recovering from my cut last time.

I was induced with both my pregnancies so never went into labour myself.
My first.. Pain and contractions midnight. 3am I was 6cm, had dd at 10.30am by forceps.
My second.. Slight pain at 3am, monitor on for 20mins which showed contractions every 3-4mins. Asked to be checked and I was 4cm. Got unreal pain from 03.20am and ds born at 03.50am.

My 2nd was shorter and easier for sure even though my 2nd was 9lb he was so much easier :)

#1 was long and traumatic. In labour for 45 hours. Had epidural, gas and air and spinal block. He was born in theatre by foreceps and I narrowly avoided a cs.

#2 was a breeze by comparison. About 10 hours in total. Tens machine only til an hour before she was born then gas and air. Waters broke and three pushes later she was here.

this is really interesting. I was in established labour 7hrs with my first so am wondering if this will be quicker. It was pretty strait forward so hope this one is to, though hoping pushing stage might be a little shorter

Yes for me! My first was about 5hrs active labour. My second was 1.5hrs total labour (early + active)

My first was 46 hours, although it was also a start stop labour. He was back to back so I was pushing for a few hours. I managed on G & A but at times I wished I had gone for an epidural while it was still an option. I got away with only grazes so no stitches but I lost a lot of blood and they had to watch me for that. Apart from it being long I think I got quite lucky with my first.

My second was completely different. From start to stop 2 1/2 hours. We barely made it to the hospital, I started pushing in the car park. I had G&A again to get me through the pushing but it only lasted about 10 minutes and I got away with grazes again. Out of hospital 6 hours later.

All in all I preferred my second one because it was faster but I was a little shell shocked at the end of it. Both were a week exactly overdue.

I was induced at 2 weeks over with Lindsey; from first contractions (2hrs after they inserted pessary) to her arrival was about 14hrs, pushing for maybe an hour and a bit.

Kilian came naturally, contractions started at 6am and he arrived also about 14hrs later at 8.40pm - but the difference was INCREDIBLE! The contractions were so easy peasy to deal with, I thought nothing could possibly be happening and stayed at home until 6/7cm!! :D Pushing was MUCH longer with him though, 2+hrs b/c his umbilical cord was 'too' short and kept pulling him back up :dohh: I need the drip to increase my contraction strength and avoid a section.

Am hoping for a shorter pushing stage this time, but otherwise both births went very well imo!! :D
xx

My first baby 15 hours ended in forceps.
My 2nd wAs 3 hours no pain relief. Great birth x

Both of mine were quick and just used gas and air.

First was from first pain at 1am born at 9:52am ..9 hours! 7lbs 8

Second first pain was at 5am born at 11:08am ...6 hours. I think he would have been much quicker but he was a big boy 10lb 11, so the second stage seemed to take forever. Pushing stage literally a minute! I was in water and felt more in control as I knew what to expect but certainly felt different from my first, hurt a lot more!

I'm glad I didn't have the 10lber for my first baby though! Youch
