Hi ladies,

First a little about myself and my family. Im married to my soulmate, we have been together on and off for 14 years, 2 of which we have been married. We have a beautiful son Lakai who was born at 23.4 weeks (you can read more about his story in the "Ask A Mom Of....." threads), he weighed 710g at birth and was in the NICU for almost 4 months. He had a very hard time in the NICU, we almost lost him a few times. He had a very bad bleed on his brain, which we were told he would be very delayed and have disabilities from. But he almost two now and he is perfect. Other than the feeding tube he is totally "normal" and you would never know he was premature...well except I guess for his raspy little voice from his paralyzed vocal cord from his heart surgery at 17 days old, which is also the cause for the feeding tube. He cannot swallow liquids properly without some going into his lungs...but there is much debate about that! He can still talk though, and jibberish is his favorite pass time!

Anyways, there was no cause for his early birth and my GP thinks its due to an incompetent cervix. So this pregnancy is both scary..and scary!

We have also had several losses.

I can't wait to finally make it to 3rd trimester with this pregnancy!

Fingers and toes crossed that I do!

Here's our little man:

A fuzzy pic of me and Lakai: (no laughing!)

An incompetent cervix?!??! That may be the least sensitive, rudest medical term I've ever heard! I'm sure your cervix is perfectly competent!

Sorry to hear about your struggle with your firstborn, but so glad to hear he is okay. And he's cute as a button to boot!!! You must be so proud!

Sorry about your losses too, hun. Doesn't sound like you've had it easy, and I can't blame you for worrying. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that this time is a lovely full 40 weeks!

My EDD is July 24, so I'm not far behind you. Congrats on your new little bean!

what a gorgeous little boy, but then so is his mother! Lovely name too...Lakai.

Good luck with your pregnancy! hopefully this time around you will have more medical support and regular check ups to see how you are doing. Now that they know you have a slightly weaker cervix they may intervene and they often stitch the cervix closed (sounds horrible) but it really is just a matter of popping in a couple of strong stitches to ensure a full term baby!

Elliot- I quite agree...its rather a rude medical term that should be re-named.

omg congrats Nik!

i wondered wen i saw your status earlier xxx

congratulations hunny and i cant believe how much Lakai has grown, i followed your story when you had him he is stunning

Thank you all so much. I think it's a horrible term too, but there are lots of horrible medical terms Ive found from having a micro preemie, that really don't mean much. =) Or aren't as horrible as they sound.

I am so happy for all of you who are also pregnant! I hope all have a long 40 weeks, with the only bump being the one growing on your bodies!!!
