I have been so careful about food and then I start eating a feta, spinach and mushroom prided congratulating myself on finding something yummy to eat I look down after taking my first bite and think #^$& sesame seeds I'm sure these are on the no list. So I took all the top part off and the food was all clear i didnt have time to get something else so i eat it. But now I can't get it off my mind I had already taken a mouthful and now I'm thinking would something bad from the seeds have tainted the food. I feel like an idiot but now I'm freaking out!!

I'm sure a few sesame seeds won't have done anything bad... And if they did taint the food it'd be only a minimal amount. x

I read that sesame seeds are a myth and that it is not proven that its linked to any problems in pregnancies. You should be fine :-)

I love sesame bagels and eat them sometimes. It really is starting to get ridiculous it seems the only thing safe to eat is water and carrots.

Sesame seeds? I had no idea and have been eating sesame oil... what is supposed to be the risk.

I agree Jcliff, sometimes I feel like I belong in a bubble or something!

Sometimes I wonder where all the misinformation comes from, I always see people saying they've eaten things which are fine.
Don't worry about it!! x

I have been eating sesame seeds pretty regularly. What are the risks? I am sure they have to be fine, otherwise there would be a few cultures with a lot less babies...

Don't be silly, we can't eat carrots. They were grown in soil, which might of been contaminated with toxoplasmosis... Lol :) Just water for us pregnant ladies.

I've never heard anything about sesame seeds being bad?? Not on the list from my midwife. I've eaten them, sesame seed biscuits, burger buns with them on top. I'm sure everything's fine. What's the problem meant to be with them?? x

I like this article and it makes sense... Also I work in a doctor's office and I just asked two of our MDs ( one is a family doctor with 26 years experience the other is an OBGYN with 34 years experience) and they both said it's BS (paraphrased mildly) lol... One of them reminded me that pregnancy is not an illness and while some foods aren't as safe (ex. uncooked meat/fish/eggs) they are not that safe for anyone....

Go for it with the sesame seeds- they are actually a really good source of calcium which we all need lots of at the moment :-)

The advice I've been given by my mum is that I can pretty much eat anything as long as it's clean and properly cooked (possible exceptions soft unpasteurised cheese and paté). It's like ask86 says, the things we are warned off like runny eggs, rare beef, raw fish etc - they don't suddenly take on dangerous properties when you are pregnant, they pose a risk to ANYONE pregnant or not, but the only difference is that if they DO make you ill, it's a bit more serious for you/the baby. It's not that they are more likely to make you ill.
I haven't heard anything about sesame seeds and wouldn't worry about that! Can't imagine what harm they could do.

Back when our grandparents were pregnant with our parents everyone, smoked, drank, ate sesame seeds! (I'm not saying drinkinh or smoking is good to do when pregnant) I just think its funny how ridiculous everything has become.

There was this phony web-site on the web awhile back, telling pregnant women to avoid EVERYTHING! And I mean err-thing. I think it got taken down, but this sounds just as wild and crazy.

Sesame seeds were not on the list to avoid from my doctor. They just had the usual things (unpasteurized things that come pasteurized, liver/ salami/ bologna, raw fish/ meat, high mercury fish, etc.).
