Short femur

I'm 28 weeks today but i had a few scans as bubba is high risk of down syndrome. Each scan has said he has short femur length. I'm not worried about him having down syndrome, but the complications that come with it. Anyone else in same position??

Have they checked baby out for Dwarfism? I know a short femur can be an indication. Something to do with the length of the femur in relation to body size I think. Can't recall. But thinking of you. And no matter what, I'm sure your little one will be loved unconditionally.

I was classified as high risk for Down syndrome early on due to my low PAPP-A levels (below the first percentile) and have had frequent scans too. I did have a NIPT done which came back as low risk.
At my 36 week scan today, baby's femur is much smaller than the rest of his measurements, at the 9th%. This has worried me being a marker for Down syndrome, even though my NIPT came back low risk for it. I guess just being in conjunction with the low PAPP-A levels it has scared me.
I see a dr about it on Monday, I will update you then on what they say about it if you like?

Sorry to hear you are going through a stressful time the first of my sister's to get pregnant was told from 26 weeks until birth that the baby had short femur length and was at risk for downs syndrome. They were wrong and baby was born with no medical complications. If they haven't pointed out any other markers for downs syndrome, try not to worry. Usually you need several markers for a concrete diagnosis.

My best friend was also told her child more than likely had dwarfism at five months. She was referred to a specialist for further tests and they were confident that the dwarfism diagnosis was inaccurate. She showed up to her next antenatal appointment in great spirits only for the original doctor to refuse to accept the findings of the specialist. They continued to insist that because the baby's limb measurements were consistently short at all her scans that she definitely had dwarfism. She was crushed and had a very worrying pregnancy. Her baby was born and did not have dwarfism, the specialist had been right. Her original.doctor never acknowledged that they were wrong.

Don't be afraid to ask for a second or third opinion. and don't forget that even doctors are wrong sometimes and often err on the side of caution. Good luck I hope everything works out xxx
