I had my routine OB appt today. The doctor came in and asked if my diet was normal, in which I answered, yes. I don't eat tons, but I do eat. May e not as muxh as I should. Anyway, he did the routine exam. Measured my uterus and listened to her heart beat. All were perfect. He said for me to come back in 2 weeks for an ultrasound to check on her growth. I asked why and he said that I haven't gained any weight, that in fact I am still down 4lbs from the first time I came in. He said by now he would like to see at least a 10lb gain. I am slightly worried for my little girl. Should I be concerned?

Doctors are so quick to make you be the PERFECT weight. You're either under or over, and they treat you like CRAP either way.

I have not gained more than 1-2lbs and it is completely normal. Just because you haven't gained a million pounds doesn't mean your baby is small or suffering :hugs:

(Just like if you gain 50lbs, it doesn't mean your baby is going to be a giant.)

Don't let him or anyone else make you feel guilty.

My belly measured small my whole pregnancy and I delivered a 8lb, healthy baby boy

I wouldn't worry; stay positive and keep doing what you're doing. Likely, you'll gain all your weight in the last trimester like a lot of us do!

I have a 32 week scan. He said it was for growth and didn't say anything about my weight. I heard the 32 week scan is normal procedure.

I don't think how much you eat is a correlation of how big the baby is..although if the baby is growing, you should be gaining some sort of weight?

Maybe he just wants to make sure the baby is growing correctly?

Is this just based on your lack of weight gain or did he check your fundal height too?

I was really sick when I first got pregnant and I was worried about my little one not getting enough but my doctor reassured me that they are like little vacuums and suck all the nutrients out first. With that said as long as you feel that you are getting enough I would think you would both be fine.

Every women is different and will gain weight differently!

It's nice to have a doctor that is checking up on that though..better than him assuming everything is fine when it's not!

My mum lost 3 stone when pregnant with my sister (no one even took any notice!) she was born perfectly healthy but pretty big 9lbs 11oz but we never knew why. Every woman will gain/lose different amounts during pregnancy as they are all different so try not to let it worry you too much, where I am in England they only weigh you at your very first appointment now and then don't weigh you again as they say everyone is different and their bodies will all do different things x

I have lost 8lbs since I went for my first OB appointment at 6 weeks and haven't gained any of it back that I am aware of. I haven't been weighed in two weeks and I was still 8lbs down then. My OB hasn't seem concerned at the fact that I haven't gained any weight at all. With my youngest DS I lost 15lbs in the beginning and only gained 5lbs once I got back to my starting weight and he was born perfect at 7lbs 7oz.

I know depending on how much you weigh to begin with, depends on how much they want you to gain.. At my first appointment, I lost 7lbs because of sickness.. Monday at my appointment I gain .8 of lb. Which actually she said was good, because they only want me to gain 10lbs.. 20lbs at the most! I wouldn't worry, everyone is different.

He checked my fundal height which is actually measuring a week and half ahead, but could have something to do with my short torso. He was happy with the measurement just not with my weight. I don't know. Im so confused.

I wouldn't worry, hun. At my appointment last week, he scheduled me for a scan this week, which I have this afternoon. I haven't gained any weight either, although I'm a bit overweight to begin with. He has never mentioned anything about my lack of weight gain being a problem and said my fundal height was right where he expected it to be. I haven't had a scan in about 9 weeks, so I think he just wants to check and make sure everything is still going how it should be. My doctor is on the cautious side and I'm a-okay with that! He's also very honest and would have said if he scheduled this scan for a specific reason or concern. I bet your doctor is the same right now. :)

I had this with DS. I gained 10 pds in my 7 1/2 month's time so my Dr wanted to check on DS growth. All was well. I later went on to gain 10 more pds my last month 1/2 an DS came out weighting 7 pds 8 oz an healthy :) don't be to worried every female is different. Hope all goes well!

Hmm that is confusing! But I'd say it was a good sign that the fundal height was measuring ok (ahead even!) as I'm not sure how torso length affects the measurement, but I wouldn't have thought it can affect it all that much.

I would just try to think of it as a peace of mind scan. It's probably a Just In Case thing and your doc is being very cautious as other posters suggested. I know it's hard not to freak out though when they send you for a growth scan... late in my third trimester last time around my fundal height measurement came out a few weeks behind and they sent me for a growth scan to check the baby was doing ok. I was terrified!! But I needn't have worried - he was perfect, just must've been especially low or curled up when they measured my FH that week.

Try to relax and don't assume the worst. Weight gain is such an individual thing in pregnancy!
