I'm really eager to free up my hands and start putting LO in the baby bjorn carrier we have. However, LO is only around 7lbs 5 and the guidance says you shouldn't use it until 8lbs.

Has anyone put their LO in a baby bjorn carrier when they were underweight for it? I'm just wondering why they say the baby should be 8lbs.

Thanks

I personally wouldn't use a baby bjorn no matter what the weight. It causes them to put too much pressure on their pelvis and can cause development issues.

I used a baby bjorn from when my LO was about 3-4 weeks old and still use it today. She was small, probably about the age of your LO so should be fine.

And btw, she has no "developmental delays" from being in one...

It can hurt their little spines, I would not unless you can find one that is built like an ergo or beco. Infantino makes one now, so their legs can be curled beneath them instead of dangling from the crotch.

We got ours from a consignment shop for 10 USD.

Loads of people hate Baby Bjorns. I don't hate them and I use one. Read up on it and come to your own conclusions.

I'd probably wait until your LO is 8lbs or whatever the required weight is (it'll probably only be another week or so anyway). My baby wears a thick snow-suit so I have to adjust it slightly for a bigger baby due to all that extra padding. The main thing is whether your baby is comfortable, secure and fully supported.

Baby Bjorns do not hurt babies. They just don't support them in the optimal anatomical position (the M position is ideal as it gives knee-to-knee support with knees higher than hips) and the weight distribution isn't great so they aren't as comfortable for the parent once baby gets heavier. However, it is still fantastic to wear you baby so please don't be put off using it! I'm not sure about the weight recommendations but as long as baby seems comfortable and secure then it should be fine. :)

I personally wouldn't use a baby bjorn either.

If u do want to carry such a small baby, there are more suitable carriers/wraps/slings

I had the bjorn before I had the ergo and when the baby is facing you it is fine but I sold it and got an ergo when lo was 6 months so she wasn't forward facing. But in answer to your Q I used it when lo was under 8lbs and it was fine ;)
