Does anybody feel so confused and like they wanna tear their hair out if they hear about another thing that could be a risk to their unborn child? I feel no matter what i eat or do etc its never good enough and im useless! I bought some dried fruit which they say yes you can eat but now there saying sulphur dioxide can lead to low birth weight and asthma, i think i have an ear infection so they say it could make your child deaf or cause birth defects etc. One place says bv can cause premature labour and then other places say its unlikely to happen if you haven't had a preterm before and normally treatment cant stop preterm labour. I really want my baby out now as all this worry is making me feel my body isn't a safe place for him to live :S they say food poisoning can harm your baby, so i ended up with food poisoning and panicked myself to death and they said oh he will be fine. Ive never been so confused what so ever, i think the health professionals are being too strict! I duno what to think anymore ... i hate this constant worry!!

I think basically the medical professionals want us all pregnant women to wrap ourselves up in cotton wool and hibernate for the whole 9 months!! They'll be telling us it's not safe to pick our noses next :haha:

I agree, its all so stupid.

I'm not intentionally trying to harm my baby by having the odd piece of blue cheese, or the occasional very small glass of wine! Some of the rules have seem to have gone too far and i'm making decisions for myself as to what i can and can't do.

my mom said she used to have a mackeson and vimto everyday when she was having all 3 of us as her source of iron and it did us no harm!!

Yes I agree.....It is hard enough being pregnant, but these 'Rules' are getting out of control....There seems to be a new one pop up daily!!! x

its really depressing, it makes me think all i can eat is organic food, they even say tap water is a bad idea, then they say bottled water is bad because of chemicals in the plastic! They say lying on your back is bad and lying on your right can cause stillbirth yet they make you lie on your back at scans and mw apts! what is the world coming to. so basically gotta be on my left bedbound and eating organic food which is prob harmful too because of parisites lol, arggggg!

Ive said it before, give it a few years and pregnant women will be put into comas and tube fed for 9months the rate we are going

ignore the "rules" and use common sense , dont read the daily papers either

They are not rules, just risks.

And its common sense of how much of a risk certain things are. The odd glass of wine where you don't even feel tipsy, or a fresh piece of blue chese ready packaged from a supermarket and a runny egg are going to be low risk. Getting pissed everynight and smoking 20cigs a day and taking heroin are going to be more of a risk (obviously).

oh i love my gp, tells me to do whatever i can manage and eat what i want in moderation. he said that insticts are not given enough credit and we should do as our bodies tells us.

I know I agree, I do follow the ruiles as strictly as I can, but I do agree with you. Also, it seems other pregnant women seem to be the worse when it comes to these rules "oooh you shouldn'tbe eating shop bought mayo...." "you shouldn't find out the sex...." x

I'm not bothered by any of these 'rules' I'll do what I want, eat what I want, drink what i want, (not smoking/alcohol though)

we were at the pub the other week, and i had a little headache (usually turns into a huge one) and just generally felt shite, so I asked OH to get me a red bull, my mum saw him give it me, and was like, you can't have that when youre pregnant can you, read it, find out, i said i'm not botheing reading it mum, i want a red bull, so i'm going to have it, leave me be!!

I was "following" the rules until I really wanted a steak med rare. I had one med, instead. I also have had Brie and Feta. Our food regualtions here in Canada are so strick that most of our cheeses Have to be pasteurized. I eevn had hot dogs last week. I bought all nautral all beef ones and cooked them longer than I normally would- but they were Damn good. I am not drinking alcohol- I dont agree with that- haven't had any snadwich meats- just because. and I am staying away from Bean sprouts.. I also only allow myself a cup of tea about 4-5 times a week!

I went to pre-natal aqua aerobics on Saturday. After the class, which is taught by a midwife, one of the other girls was chatting about walking. The midwife actually said she shouldn't be walking for more than 15 minutes at a time, as she could get pelvic bone disease (or something or other). I mean come on, we both stood there and said, "well we walk our dogs for 2 hours a day!" Apparently 20 years ago that aws fine but not now. RIDICULOUS!!!!

Thank you for this post. I completely agree. I definitely am a big believer in moderation for everything in life. If it is something. I "shouldn't" have I generally avoid it but I haven't completely cut out ANYTHING. I have an occasional half glass of red and I can't resist soft serve icecream in the summer. I grew a beautiful baby boy last year using common sense and he is smart, and gorgeous (well, that's if u ask me!). I am probably even a little more laid back this time. My Dr when pregnant with my first was a lot more laid back than the Dr I am with this time. He basically rattles off the major no no's and told me to use common sense. Since then I moved so I had to switch Drs. This place gave me packet after packet of DONT'S. They even made us come to a meeting, where the nurse actually said we should be on a diabetic diet as a pregnant woman! What a joke. I am so glad I wasn't with this Dr for my first or I may have never had a second! Lol.

Honestly just use your judgement. That's what I do, and Im definetly not trying to harm my baby. I dont eat raw food and runny eggs...i wash my fruit well...i have a little hot dog once in a while....u kno? I was paranoid for a while , then i spoke to my parent about it , and they told me to relax and calm down. That when she was pregnant they didn't know ANY of that stuff, and neither did their parents and etc....

we will be fine!!! just dont overdue anything !!!:)

this is why I stay away from google, and I refuse to buy any pregnancy books. (ther than Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy...every pregnant woman HAS to read that one)

...anyway I follow what my own personal doctor tells me, and I listen to my own body, that's it!! With all these, rules and suggestions it's no wonder us preggo's feel like a nut case 1/2 the time.

Too many cooks in the kitchen leads to disaster.

lol
if you follow the rules, you feel like a nutcase.
if you don't, people tell you you're a nutcase.
Feels like there's no way to win....
