Two of three of my sisters had trouble getting pregnant and it took them well over a year or more to do so.. I am on my fifth cycle and can't help but think it's going to take me forever a well. Can infertility run in the family?.. If I go see my gyno and tell her there's history of infertility in the family, will she allow me to go see a specialist before the one year mark?

I think it would depend on the reasons for infertility, for example make infertility factor is just bad luck but would have nothing to do with you

Also if you're in your 20's there's no need to go unless you have other issues. A regular OB can do a LOT of things before seeing a specialist

I am 24 but they were the same age as me when they started trying

I personally don't believe that you can look at family history for how long it'll take to conceive. My mom managed to get pregnant instantly every time but we're struggling on 7 months of trying:shrug:

As for the gyno, it wouldn't hurt to mention your sisters history of having fertility issues, fingers crossed they would be proactive instead of waiting. Best of luck :)

Depends what the problem was.
Eg pcos can be genetic, but endometriosis isn't.
90% of female fertility problems are just random, not at all genetic. Eg cervical stenosis, uterine problems , blocked tubes etc are just "bad luck" whereas if its a hormonal problem like pcos or thyroid it may be genetic

Okay.. One of my sisters had endo and the other had a fibroid got pregnant when it was removed but couldnt conceive her second so she had to go through ivf and had twins, they told her she has unexplained fertility. Never used protection a day in her life but she just doesnt get pregnant!!!

No, it doesn't. My sister and her husband got pregnant on their very first month of trying. On the other hand my husband and I have been trying for two years. I have been diagnosed with PCOS which is genetic. We have the same parents but obviously I got the PCOS gene and she didn't. So clearly just because one sister has problems doesn't mean another will. But it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!
