Hi all!

I'm 40 and pregnant for the first time. I'm about 5 weeks along.I was feeling nausea in the early a.m. (like between 1am and 7-8am) as soon as the week of my missed period.
Last week I slipped and fell, landing on my knee. I was fine, but a few days later I stopped feeling that early morning nausea.
I'm worried that it means something is wrong... maybe I'm about to miscarry?
Should I be concerned?

I think you shouldn't worry that a fall could harm the tiny embryo at this stage. I'd be more inclined to get your knee checked out and just take care of yourself in general.

There's really not a lot you can do to prevent a m/c, unfortunately, but also on the flip side there's not a lot you can do to cause one either so early on. Try to put your mind at ease. I always have horrible pg symptoms but they don't really kick in until 6-8 weeks and before that they come and go with no rhyme or reason.

Congrats and best of luck!

Yes, try not to worry. At five weeks you don't even have a fetus yet! The embryo is teeny tiny and very well cushioned in your uterus. I am sure a small fall at this stage wouldn't even register. Even a similar fall months from now when you have a sizeable bump probably wouldn't even be that bad (provided you didn't knock your belly).

I know it's hard, especially with your first, but try not to worry. My dr. told me that stress causes hormonal imbalances and having balanced hormones in pregnancy is really important! (Now I've got you stressed about stress… :dohh:)

Pregnant women survive bad car accidents and don't miscarry. Believe me, we are programmed to propagate the species. Embryos/fetuses/babies/toddlers/kids are a LOT tougher than we think. You and your baby are absolutely fine. :flower:

Thanks for the helpful responses!
My knee is fine. I had a little bruise for a day or two. I wasn't really that concerned until my morning nausea suddenly disappeared.

Symptoms can come and go for your entire pregnancy. It doesn't mean anything. My queasiness has been off and on for the past two months. Pregnancy is so mysterious and variable, there aren't always explanations for things (get used to this!). Obviously, some things don't apply, such as if you felt your baby moving all the time and suddenly didn't--that's reason for alarm but you've still got a way's to go before you have to worry about that. Try to relax and don't spend too much time researching/thinking about things that can go wrong (like I did last time). It will only drive you nuts. Just remember that the vast majority of pregnancies progress normally and produce healthy, perfect babies. Being pregnant requires you to have a lot of faith and trust in things beyond your control or understanding. Which can be hard. But it is so, so worth it in the end--you'll see!

I fell down the stairs with baby #1 around 30 some weeks. He was just fine and is almost 4 now. :) I was freaked out about this nausea thing too cause it suddenly went away...well let me tell you its back now with a vengeance! Chances are you are getting a little break and nausea will be back soon.

I was in a car accident when pregnant with dd2 in 2004 and my hips hit the center console while my spine went in an S shape whip lash if I wasn't wearing my seatbelt I would have been in the passenger seat. My daughter turned out great very smart too she could read at 3-4 , knew simple fractions at 4 , and was born super healthy.
